  1. Typhon 6s
Anyone raced or just fun "tracked" their typhon? I got my eyes on a mostly full typhon 6s blx but in parts and I can build up for free. The nearest track which is new to me, its a backyard "just for fun" large dirt track. But most of the time they do glue it. So tires are mixed from pins to worn down tires to almost slicks. Planning to build it up as a mixed basher, but also a track basher. Only gonna run it on 4s starting out since 6s packs are way to expensive for my price range.

From what my buddy has together, 6s blx but in mostly parts. Spektrum 150a esc. stock 2050kv motor and a xteam 3670 1900kv motor (but has a bad bearing) with a chnl 4.0mah 70c 4s lipo, body, and wheels/tires from the TLR version. Might need some parts here and there, some hardware and some tools since Im used to 10th scale 4wd buggies, scts, trucks, ect. (I got a slash, rustler, b74, mini b and tt02)

Tires wise, Ill use the ones I got now for bashing and then ill get a set or 2 for track tires. This track does not do racing, but they do have a loop system which they do occasionally have running. But if I were to ever race it, what is a good starting setup? What upgrade parts do you recommend? What spare parts should I stock up on? And finally, since I was thinking about this, since 8th scale buggies are kinda like 4x4 SCTs would I be able to convert a typhon into a SCT?

Edit:
What should I expect on my first drive? Used to 2wd trucks, and now getting used to my 4wd race buggy. From videos, I seen typhons like to nose dive alot. Any advice on driving too?
Also since this track is new to me and ill be checking it out this weekend, Ill bring my slash rustler and buggy with the tires I got since this is a "just for fun" track, and Im new to the outdoor track scene, since Im used to indoor carpet and "sealed" clay.

@CosmoM3 has a lot of experience setting up Typhon track/race buggies. Maybe he will chime in. Never knew of anybody else getting one of these with a Typhon:

One thing I do know is that most of the guys doing it seem to not like the TLR tires for track use.

For backyard dirt racing at a friend's place, the stock Typhon 6S will be fine with some tires like the Pro-Line Holeshot 2.0 tires in either M3 or M4 compound if the weather is not too hot.

Race prepping the Typhon properly for A-Mains at club races and regionals requires a ton of time and commitment into the platform. It's not cheap (the "TLR tuned" platform is a much more capable platform than the base Typhon) but doable.

You might be better off with a set of GRP's than the Exobytes. I used a set of the Exobytes for a season on an Xray on my clay backyard track. They're certainly better than the Katars, but pretty much the same hard compound, very slick. Also wear like iron. The GRP's run $20 a pair, I haven't tried them, but they can't be worse than Exobytes on clay I don't imagine.
My bro runs his Typhon 6s on 4s, all stock except for a set of PL Blockades, which might just be the single best upgrade, tires. Shedding weight would probably be second, though I'm not sure how cost effective.
If I were to recommend a budget racer, probably a Hobao. They seem very well built for the money, especially if you buy the ARR.

Simply LOVE the PANTHER tires !!!
I've heard great things about Panther tires. Not sure if they're back online yet. Rumor has it an ex employee screwed them pretty good before they left, Panther is still in biz though, trying to put the pieces back together.

Phone them if you're looking to order. Site is still in shambles last I knew.

This pattern on hard to soft surface duff over a firm base simply ROCK IT !!!

Similar to PL Crimefighters, I still have a pair of them. Just a pair though, not a set. I had two sets that came with a second hand Xray XB8 I bought 10 years ago. I let my bro borrow a set for his Typhon 6s. He shredded them on 6s, lesson learned, race tires and 6s, no bueno. LOL

I'm running Crimefighters out back, and Dynamite Dirtsmiths up front on a 17mm converted SCT410.3 ATM, kicks but. Need to get the rear shock springs sorted though, the stockers are just way too soft. I put some TT Bushmaster 8E springs on it, too stiff..Running a Max10 SCT with 3670 2600kv on 3s with 20/46 gearing. I see why Tekno moved away from the 410.3, too heavy to be competitive on 2s, but it's tough as nails and a rocket on 3 or 4s. Actually 4s is too much for track IMO.

Yup run my Typhon doing track work on 3s using a 2350kv on 16/50 gearing.
4S is totally nuts and very difficult to control.

I imagine track size and layout will dictate what is needed. I know my brother ran 3s in his otherwise stock Typhon 6s, was okay, lacking a bit on straights at our place. I imagine if it were a tad lighter 3s would be fine though. Maybe gearing would get it up to snuff. I'd like to get an actual weight on his Typhon vs my Xray XB8 and see how they compare. I'd bet on an Xray being lighter but mine is a converted nitro, which required a lot off preload spacers on the shocks to get a suitable ride height, so gotta be heavier than stock.

I can't imagine running on 3S on a heavy rig like the Typhon 6S (even the TLR Tuned version). Even with gearing, that motor will be be struggling, but most people run 1900kv-2200kv on a 4268 sized can. A higher Kv motor on 3S, I don't know if the buggy will last a full 8 minute Main on a medium sized track at full send. It's not unheard of, but extremely rare as you can run 4S and just reduce the throttle EXP on the Tx.

Most of the tracks in my area are Medium (smallest) where you can easily top out your gearing and power on the straights and the jumps are long. A smaller indoor 1/10 course, I guess I can see someone running 3S on a Sportsman class.
