Wow! This one kinda stretched my fabrication skills.
I got a regular ol' trash6 for Christmas, and loved it for snow bashing. It never really crawled how I wanted it to, though, so I kinda put it on the back burner and started hatching plans for a flatty. In the meantime I picked up a new castle copperhead and figured it would play nicely with the $20 2600kv chinesium motor I have in my spare drawer. I kinda wanted to keep it a hybrid crawler/basher since it's so fun to bash with.
Ok, it crawls well with the new setup! But I still was stuck on body mount and flatbed. Luckily I have friends in the right low places for this hobby!
Had an extra kraton shock tower kicking around- great body mount!
Some spare shock parts (who actually uses those, btw?), and a spare body mount from a notorious? drilled into the front bumper.
And a pin to hold it in the front of the grill.
And if you remove the front battery tray screws, the whole tray tips up for access.
So I had to create a tipping bed for it now.
Everything opens enough to get at the battery, motor, esc, etc.
Next I glued & screwed some zebra wood rails to the maple deck, and ran some oak crossbars
To finish, I put a maple header, and some maple slats for load stability
I'll take it for a trail/climb test tomorrow. If it survives, I'll hit the wood with some tru oil for weatherproofing.
I kinda love it already.
