I have a typhon 3s blx. All stock. I never programed the punch setting on the esc
So like I said it's stock. I want to upgrade the pinion. Do I have to upgrade the spur gear too to steel one. What do I need to buy? I want to make sure everything is right before I punch up the esc

No need to change the spur.. but I would not exceed a 20t pinion as it will generate alot of heat.. 20t is about the threshold.. alot of people run 18t which works well..

I prefer 20t on my rig, but any wide open throttle extended runs it does get hot..👍

The Typhon stock pinion should already be the 20T. Since it uses buggy tires you could go a little larger like 22-23T but after that you might need to invest in a decent 30mm heatsink fan.

17t seems to be just right for my runs. Just a little faster than the stock but it doesn't usually overheat the motor (side by side off-road running with another stock 3S Senton or Typhon and you can definitely see the speed difference)

Sorry I meant to say I couldn't find them on hobbytown website
But yes I did find them on Google search before you replied. Thanks for your reply

Whatever you buy make sure its 5mm shaft and 0.8 mod. I bought a set and didnt notice it was mod 1 and the pinions didnt mesh with the spur gear lol

I fried my battery running a 22t, so I would not recommend it. run time is about 5 minutes before overheat

Point is, we’re sure the OP figured out the issue 🤣
