Typhon 3s - Do I need this piece?

Hi guys, my dad is unsure whether he needs this plastic piece at the end of the drive shaft. I guess it's part of the slipper clutch assembly..? He says re-assembling it he might have put it back together wrong which caused it to be eaten up on his first runs after the rebuild..
The truck runs fine, should he still replace it asap?

I don't think so. I had a pebble get in there and therefore it was toast. I took it off and threw it away.

It sole job is to hold that red aluminum part, without it every time you remove the central driveshaft you need to keep an eye on that part so it won't get lost, but otherwise it is not needed.

oh man that exact same piece split exactly like that! this post is a god send because i swear i thought i was screwed since the kit that has this piece isn't in stock until late july
