Hi guys
I wanted to change the stock pinion on my typhon v5 to the optional speed pinion they provide in the box… I’ve never done it before. This might sound stupid but is it the cog that’s attached to the motor? If so what is the best way to get it off? I can’t see the shaft so I can’t remove the grub screw.
I know il need to unplug the 3 motor cables and undo the top 2 screws (so it can slide) but I do I need to remove the full motor from the car to be able to change the pinion?
Any tips advice or home videos provided would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for your time

You can change it on the car without taking the motor out, but it’ll be fiddly for someone who hasn’t done it before. Just remove the top two screws, unplug the motor wires, and slide the motor out. Might need to give it a nudge with a screwdriver to get it moving, sometimes the dirt buildup won’t let it slide easily.

Make sure you have good tools like MiP drivers in 1.5mm, 2mm, & 2.5mm. And you might need to warm up the pinion slightly to get it off. You don’t want to strip any of those screws if you’re not experienced with it

So it’s just that grub screw? Sorry for bad photo as it’s rather hard to get a good photo. Side the pinion off, add abit of loctite to grub screw and then slide speed pinion on? My concern is how do I know I’ve got a good connection between the cog? Is there something I should be looking for?

Okay I’ve managed to get grub screw out. But the pinion won’t budge I’ve tried lots of things and I don’t want to damage anything. Can anybody make some suggestions please? Thank you

Is there a c clip on the end of the motor shaft also?

if so take it off first
Then after the c clip, use a soldering iron, or torch to warm up the pinion then use a 1/4” to 1/2” flat blade screw driver between motor mount and pinion and use a gentle twisting action till it budges

At the very end of the shaft, there is a notch, that notch has a clip on it that prevents the pinion from sliding off if the grub screw ever comes loose.

IMO You’re much better off just removing side guards and sliding the whole assembly out. Makes working on it so much easier and will make setting the new gear mesh way easier too.

Also if your having that hard of a time, you might want to see if there’s a local hobby shop near by, and possibly bring it to them and see if they can help with repairs. And maybe tell you a couple of tips and tricks.

edit: also check to see if it has a second grub screw in the pinion, I’ve heard Arrma has some pinions with 2 grub screws. Maybe you got one of those on accident
