Hi folks!

Did a bunch of jumps today, nothing crazy imo - maybe 1-1.5m from the surface. Some runs on the asphalt.
After one of the landings heard that something is wrong (a grinding sound appeared). Eventually found out that a tooth is missing on the pinion gear (16T).

Does it mean I am landing on power or was just unlucky? I do know that landing on power is bad-bad and always try to let go the throttle before the car lands. The mesh was fine from the factory - a tiny bit of clicking between gears, felt good.
Was also wondering if there are any known quality alternatives to the 6s pinion gears (in my case it is ARA310963)?

Thank you!

Arrma pinions kind of suck. And yes you probably landed on throttle to cause this.

A Tekno pinion is the right choice for replacement. Much stronger than stock. You need Mod 1 and 5mm bore.
Tekno M5 ^+1

Right, thanks!
Mod 1 and 5mm bore - is this the only important criteria to take into consideration?

Tekno M5 pinion & loctite & you're good! The V6 is a 16t, correct? Could go down to 15t, just don't go up. The ESC could amp out under load.

I use hpi pinions for years on most of my cars there machined so last a long time. I've had the tekno ones in the past but there really expensive in the uk love the bigger grub screw though

No Tekno locally, sadly. Grabbed the last Robinson gear LHS had. From what I understand it is a solid one as well. We'll see how it goes.

By the way, do you normally apply Blue or Red Loctite to make sure it stays in place?

It'll be good! Blue loctite. I usually clean out the oil in the threads & grub by applying loctite, run it in the threads, back it out, wipe it clean, re-apply blue loctite.

Robinson makes good stuff too.

Ditto what 332 said

I have no idea what this is called, but do you need to install the small thing on the left side of the picture in the link below when replacing the stock v6 pinion with a Tekno one?

Do you mean the thing in the middle? E-clip. Makes sense to install. If the grub screw gets loose, the e-clip will hold the gear from flying away.
If you mean the black thing to the left of the e-clip, then of course. I believe this is how they show the grub screw. Which holds the pinion gear 🙂
