Not sure electrical tape is going to do anything but move around, get hot and end up getting gum in your bearings. I think I'd rather have slop than that.
I will certainly monitor it. It will be pretty easy to identify if my "bad idea" fails. There were no issues after my quick test run in front of my house. I'm not worried about potentially trashing the bearing. I have 9 more.
Perhaps a better solution would have been to fill the valley with some type of adhesive or coating that dries somewhat hard, and is sandable, so the shaft could be restored. Even better yet, would be replacing the shaft. But, I decided to try quick and dirty first.
