I was just curious what motors people have had good luck with running 8s on a Max6 ESC. KV and can size would be appreciated, as well a favorite brands.
I think my MOJO is about to get an upgrade.

I ran a Rocket 4585 1100kv/Max6 in my Mojave, now I’m on the Castle 1717/mmx8s combo, never ran either on 8s though !!! 6s is nuts enough, they both pull wheelies at any speed..😲😉
I have the EXB version and in all honesty I can’t see why you would need 8s..??!!

That is unless you have a weird fetish where you like to destroy diffs..🤣🤣

The max6 is limited to 1200kv on 8S and suggests a max size of 5892

For bashing i would not run a non-8s spec motor on 8s. Anything that ruins efficiency will translate to unwanted heat.
Max amps on spec can go some beyond 160A as it all comes down to gearing and your throttle finger

TP i'd go for a 5650 (960 or 1150kv)
Rocket RC 5692 (730 or 980kv)
If you wanna keep it smaller and lighter
TP 4070 (1060-910kv)

I currently run a XLX2 + 2028-1100kv on my fireteam. Also ran a max5 + TP5840L before. I would recomment a big castle motor too, but given the price and the max6 being sensorless you're better off with a TP or anything cheaper within 8s specs

1650kv on 8s is likely on "borrowed time"?
1100kv would be a safer bet..
Found this..

I have seen people use the 4985 (only rated for 6s) just fine, but mileage may vary.
Same. I put boca bearings in my 4985 and it ran 8s zero problems for as long as I wanted it to. Had it in a felony for a while.

I run the tp 4070 1700kv on 8s in my mojave and it rips hard but that's with an mmx8s.

Could you tell a difference in power or heat with Castle over the cheaper stuff?
Heat wise, not really any difference so far.. I ran the Rocket with a 30T pinion, I can't remember what I've currently got on the Castle, but my setups don't run any extra motor fans as I hate having more stuff I can break 🤣🤣 gear correctly and. you shouldn't need extra fans etc. (that is unless you live in the desert😎🤣)

I ran my Rocket 1100kv 4585 on a Max6 with absolutely no issues whatsoever..!! Only swapped to the Castle system as I wanted to use the rocket elsewhere..👍🏼

I currently run a XLX2 + 2028-1100kv on my fireteam.
How does that system not melt the diffs in a Fireteam..!! There are people on here that have destroyed K8s and O8s diffs with that XLX2 setup..!!🤪

Fireteam comes with the Arrma aluminum center diff right out of the box. Otherwise, I’m sure they would melt! I. About to swap over to an aluminum center diff on my Mojave as part of the upgrade.

I’ll be bashing pretty exclusively on 6s. I want the option to use an 8s setup for reconfiguring the truck and doing an occasional speedrun.
Swap the a-arms and shock towers, shocks, and wheels. Slam it down and stuff a GT body on it. Just for fun. 😊
Converts back easily enough to stock for most of its use, but now I’ll have the electronics onboard for whatever I want to do with it, pretty much with just a simple pinion change.

Rocket 1100kv 4585 is safely within those limits. Just wanted to say that the max6 will allow only 1200kv*33.6v = 40320 rpm. Higher KV motors technically could go much higher, but will run against the 'rev limiter' of the max6

I did break a rear diff after some offroad speedrunning, though i think it already happened with the max5/TP5840L. I guess my nature as a speedrunner also makes my kind on the throttle, even when i bash.

I dropped in the XLX2 for that reason. max6 does have it's limites if it comes down to speed.
If you run the max6 on 6S for bashing you will be less limited in kv. Personally I'd still keep it at 1200kv max, but up to 1600kv should still work fine. It can handle the heat of a few speedruns on 8S. Just note that for gearing you will not exceed 40k rpm.

I'm going to disagree with him and say I notice a difference. I thought the max6 combo ran hotter overall than the castle mmx8s combo. Both esc and motor but esc to a larger degree.

haha I have a tp 5860 (58112) in my v1 limitless and I just recently had the end of a outdrive cup where the pin goes snap off in the rear diff. I also had a big block in a fireteam and talion xl and had zero diff issues. poop seems random af but to be fair, the tp 5860 is more motor and I was on 8s.

I’m pretty sure my next ESC purchase will be an MMX8S. Only reason I bought the last XLX2 was because of the better BEC and I didn’t want to run an extra LiPo or stand-alone BEC on an SWB because of the lack of real estate. And who am I fooling here anyway? I’m never going to even approach 200mph on a speed runner. I have neither the time nor the runway.

it really is a great esc man. I feel like it goes under the radar a lot and all you hear is max 6 or xlx2 lol. Still can't believe so many people put a max 6 into xmaxxs and stuff. I don't mind it so much in my outcast 6s but I ended up getting rid of all the max 6 I had in on road rigs after I kept hitting thermal so easily and saw how much cooler my mmx8s rigs were.

Don't forget I'm in England and it's always cold outside 😉🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have high expectations for the max6 g2 though. I agree the mmx8s doesn't get enough attention, but it's also basicly double the price.

+1
My all stocker and Metal diffed FT center diff alone gets to literally 250F+ easily , on 6s. It handles it so far. But shouldn't for long. I even gradually moved up to 700k cst and she still gets super hot. This makes the motor hotter just because of the thermal heat transfer flowing through the diff/motor mount back to the motor.
I may need a Fan just for the Center diff alone.:ROFLMAO:
I seriouly may have to use a diff Fan. I easily burned my finger touching the Center diff. With 6s.

I want to try my max 6/4985 and install some Boca bearings and try it in the X-Maxx but I think that will be a bit too much for the can
