Kraton Why does the spur gear need to be uncovered?

Seems like I've seen a bunch of rc cars where the spur is either open from the top or poking out through the bottom. Why isn't this a sealed system?

To let debris fall out.

The same way as it's done on the 3s/4s models...pull the whole housing out. It is more time consuming compared to the 6s models.

Did not realize thats how the others work. My RC experience was with Tmaxx and Savage, they both have open spur setups so its all Ive ever used.

Sounds like a pain to remove a housing just to set the mesh!

RWD cars usually have a cover over the spur and pinion too. Just wait until you touch a belt system. PITA.

I don't mine it exposed, easy to keep a eye on gears and set mesh. Like said above, my rear wheel drive rustler has a cover over the gears but still easy to access.
