Hi guys, I’ve already added the typhon arms and links to my vorteks to get some extra width, but I’m not too happy with how much the driveshafts have to extend to compensate for the extra width leaving not much of the sliding shaft engaged, now I’ve been toying with a couple ideas but I’m not sure what’s the best option, if I add the typhon driveshaft and axles to my existing vortex driveshafts that come from the diff would that close the gap a bit or are they the same length?
And also I’ve been looking at wheel hex extensions but not sure if I like the idea of the extra strain it would put on the axels? If I go down the line of the typhon axels and 17mm hexes would that give me any extra width or would it be the same as the stock vortex 14mm hex?

The only difference between the Typhon drive shafts and other 3s line driveshafts are the axles. The long armed big rock and typhon have done just fine with the stock driveshafts for years. If you want the car even wider than it is already with the long arms, then add hex extenders. Worst case scenario is breaking an occasional axle.

You shouldn’t have any issues with the 10mm extensions that hot racing sells. You will need to get new 17mm hubbed tires, though. I’ve been running 2.8 badlands with extensions and typhon arms for a while with no problems. If you replaced the stock vorteks tires with something the same width and diameter, that’s a good bit less weight than the 2.8’s.
The added strain of a tad more width will not hurt the driveshafts, since the added width is on the outside of the hub. I’ve also been running stock granite shafts with no issues. (*Furiously knocks nearest wood)

I’m pretty sure the 3s driveshafts are all the same across the board. Fronts are different than the rear but no difference between rigs. Only difference is the 17mm stub on the Typhon 3s. On road 3s have the shorty driveshafts.

Yeah I’ve been looking at the badlands 2.8s too, I think I’ll look into the hot racing racing extensions, hopefully shipping to the uk won’t be an issue, I’m running an ezrun max 10 140a with the new 3660 3200kv motor and an 18t pinion, I’m pretty sure my set up should cope ok with the extra weight of the 2.8s (hopefully 🤞😂) do they sell them in a 17mm hex and should I go for the belted?

I think they are sold under the name ‘Louise’ in the UK and should have a 17mm hex option.

Ahh ok thanks, had a quick look but most places seem to have low if any stock available, something like this?

That’s it. The wheel itself is a different but those are the same tire as the MX28s that I really like. They are my favorite one 10th size tire. They are expensive, but will last if you stick to dirt with them and check the tires closely every couple of runs at the glue bead and for any nicks, scratches or holes. Hit any issues with CA glue (super glue) whenever you find them. Really keep a close eye on the wheel/tire glue bead. If it starts to come loose anywhere, even a little bit, the tires can rip. I’m curious, is that price listed for one tire or a set of two?

My only experience is with the proline’s (non-belted) and the fortress tires that it comes with. Both of them are pretty decent.
The point is more for the larger hub which I much prefer. I ran the prolines on 14mm, 12mm, and then 17mm, and I won’t go back to smaller ones.

Awesome thanks, I wondered that too, just waiting on a reply to find out if that’s for a pair, they do actually sell the proline badlands too so I’ve got a few options to think about, the next one being should I go belted or unbelted and what’s the benefits either way?

Belted will last longer and not balloon nearly as much. They can handle the higher rpm without shredding.
I expect the ballooning, non-belted tires will assist in flips while airborne, and maybe get better traction in the front as the chassis raises up under torque.

I have had both and I prefer unbelted. Much better rotation control (it’s not just for jumping), better traction, I felt, and seems to wear much better. It really depends upon your driving style. With a vorteks you can go either way (I have one also). If you want high speed tires that don’t balloon, go belted. If you want to jump, do more stunts style stuff, get unbelted. Since you’re super widening the car I figure you want to bash it, so maybe unbelted would be better. Up to you.

Yeah bashing is what I prefer to do, not really a fan of sending it sky high, have just been looking at those Louis tires and they state 136mm diameter, does that seem to much?

Well I got a reply and it’s £26.59 for 2 tires! Now I’m really tempted, they claim to be 70.2 x 136.4, not sure if that’s too big for the vorteks even with typhon arms and hot racing extended hexes?

And they have non removable hexes

They work fine. I have the wide arms on my Vorteks with M2C +5mm hexes and they’ve always fit well. I did trim a little bit on the corners of the body wheel wells though for when they balloon.

Have you got these tyres or the mx28?, according to the description the mx28 are smaller at 69x128 so I’m not sure if the Louise are going to be a problem, it’s an extra 8mm in width and being a fixed hex I’m stuck with the 1/2” offset 🤔

MX28s as I’m here in the states. I did not realize Louise tires are bigger…
Those +10 hot racing extensions should help though.

Aah ok, yeah it’s only 8mm but some would say that’s a lot 😂 but then the hr hexes I’m getting are the 10mm so that might make up for it
🤔 I thought women only considered full inches not partials…😂
