Kraton Yet another problem - 6s = Grinding Noise

Going out tonight so be next week I think. Really done my head in, can't win with that car. Brand new parts apart from the pinion so no idea why it's doing it.

We all have been there....sometimes it does not go as planned

Been there. What pinion are you using? Stock or aftermarket? Is the mesh too loose? What's the pinion look like now? Any metal shavings?

It's one of the narrow ones as the official one is too wide, the motor shaft only goes down half way of the pinion hole if you get me.

Mesh is sound

Finally got it up and running, bought a 6s battery and now it can't put the power down. Horrible grinding metal on metal noise which seems to be the pinion/spur.

All diffs are new along with a new spur. Currently in the boot of the car, time out for the A.hole! šŸ˜”
I've been close to throwing mine in the bushes a few times over the years. when you've been doing it as long as I have you no straight away what's the problem most of the time anyway just stick with it check the pinion make sure its not spinning on the shaft mite have lost a tooth also check your diff pinion grub screws make sure there tight. these cars take a bit of stick on 6s so they take a bit of learning whats what on them

Forgot to add the image of the pinion. Didn't even have 5 mins on a 6s and decided to poop itself

Could be the pinion is too soft if it's a cheaper one. Been there. Dunno what you mean it doesn't line up. Looks like a soft pinion. It's not heat treated hard enough. Spur looks ok.

Nothing wrong with that little wear on the pinion provided your mesh is good. New parts do not equal okay, input gears still require shimming along with ring gear/output bearings for proper backlash front/center/rear in planetary/sun assembly. Even a new bulkhead assembly should be precisely evaluated with component tolerance stack up. If you want plug and play a.k.a replace and go, thatā€™s what plastic 2S/3S/4S toy grade cars accommodate.

Half the fun in 6S+ hobby grade or competition racing assembly will be setup and failure mode improvements.

Weā€™ve all been in your situation, luckily the information is all available for you to learn and ask questions. It just takes research and trial&error.

Are you that guy, pal??

Looks like your pinion gear ate a rock. I recommend Tekno pinions, I think they're the best. With a 6s truck you want your gear mesh on all 3 diffs to be as tight as possible with no binding and no tight spots. A mild snug spot it gets past with little to no resistance is OK. If you run your gear mesh on the loose side your truck will grind itself apart on 6s.

Besides the grinding noise, you said you can't put the power down.
Grub screw loose? Tight enough to hold gear in place but too
loose so it spins on the motor shaft causing loss of power
to the ground and a horrible sound?

It's a long shot, but it's worth checking.
