Welp the rest of my paint arrived from SprayGunners, but Amain is clueless on where one of my orders has gotten off to… Of course it’s the order with the Bitty Design liquid mask.. Bastards…
Still have things to do though, and got to take a brief trip down memory lane with this bit…
20yrs ago when truggies still utilized traditional sized MT tires, Losi released the first “4.0” wheel in anticipation of their Losi 8ight T truggy, as well as the Losi Muggy. They used a funky bead/wheel channel design for their proprietary Losi XXT low profile MT tires, but the diameter was there, and that got my gears turning… I was a big time Panther Tires guy, and absolutely loved their “Gator” truggy offering. Only thing was-it was a traditional MT bead, and profile. They had JUST began including closed cell foams with them, conveniently enough, so I pulled the trigger on a couple pair, and a set of the 1/2 offset Losi 4.0 wheels.. the risk was absolutely worth the reward to me, if I could get those archaic, and absolutely terrible MT sidewalls, and wheels out from under my truggies, and just straight up make fools of anyone else on the track..
They arrived, I took my finest garbage Dubro lexan choppers, and hacked the beads off. I then gave a bit of a haircut to the Panther closed cell foams with the dremel, and sanding drum, and stretched the unlikely duo over the modified Losi wheels… SUCCESS!!! I never looked back, eventually the aftermarket caught up, and all was right with the world..
Fast forward 20yrs, and the only old school Crimefighters, or Bowtie pattern rubber you’ll find for a now standard 4.0” wheel is a Duratrax/Louise X-con, as I expected; I am NOT a fan… Junk rubber, worse glue job, and horrid open cell foams that look like 1980’s fish tank filter material to put it mildly.. I really did give ‘em “the ol’ college try”…
Well Panther Tires are still around, they’re DIRT CHEAP, their rubber is phenomenal, and they STILL have the old MT style Gators, but in that old weirdo Losi bead design… So I popped for some… I just love the tread design, and their compound works killer in loose stuff, or blown out track conditions.. They also work killer if it’s a bit moist, or darker, softer, soil.. I did have a super nice set of VP-Pro closed cell foams I got for next to nothing, so I decided to incorporate them into the concoction as well. Popped the routine inner sidewall/shoulder vents in, and about to bust out the tire bands, and glue these rascals up! These things are gonna work KILLER. Something to be said for being able to make chicken salad from chicken shitt..
I know I need my head examined, it’s fine..
