Arrma RC's
  1. Kraton 8S
I really needed another way to discharge some 3S/4S lipo's :p
Mojave has been on my list for quite a while, I thought I might as well make a build log, nothing fancy though, just the usual recipy for a new RC.

Parts list:
- Obligatory new car, with the widely coveted new-car-smell.
- Power plant and transmitter/receiver: hand-me-downs from the Kraton 8S
-> Spektrum 1250kV 4685 motor (previous gen with 5mm toothpick-strength shaft)
-> Spektrum 160A ESC
-> DX3 transmitter with SR6110AT receiver
- Servo: el-cheapo from the spare bin: DS Servo DS3235 Pro (https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32702835900.html?spm=a2g0z.12010612.8148356.1.3fe17523WqKUI8) we'll see how it holds
- 24t pinion 5mm bore, mod1 safe-D
- M2C extended hubs (https://m2cracing.net/arrma/495-m2c-3160-arrma-17mm-hub-extenders.html)
- Proline Badlands 3.8 (https://www.prolineracing.com/tires/badlands-3.8-all-terrain-tires-mounted-raid.asp)

1st up prep-work and some installation:
- opened up the diffs, all 3 got the LSD-plates, rear is configured for minimum effect, center and front for maximum effect
- replaced stock diff oil with 50/250/20k front/center/rear for now, I'll need some testing to find out what oil weights and LSD-config suits me best
- motor fits easily, stuffed some heavy-duty packaging foam under the rear, maybe it helps to absorb the bad landings
- ESC needed a shave, bit too wide to clear the upper motor lead
- servo is a direct fit
- plenty of room in the receiver box for excess cables
- toughened up the body posts, again the packaging foam

I think you may find those diff weights to be a little stiff with the LSD. The LSD design really does a lot to multiply the viscosity. Just a heads-up, you'll know what you like when it comes to handling better than I would, and terrain makes all the difference. I've been running 20k/200k/10k, max/max/none and I think the center is overly rigid. I plan to try plates in the rear with 10k next. Some people like a flippy locked-out truck, but I thought it was faster, more controllable, and better in the corners before I went heavier in the center.

Thanks for the hint (y) , I'll be looking for a balance between controllability and deliberate oversteer. ;)
Will keep you posted what setup I end up with after some 6S/8S runs.

Haven't had much time, so only small update this time:
- set endpoints
- checked ESC settings and bind/calibrate, it has been on a shelf for a while
- removed the sliding top part of the battery tray to make room for hardcase 4S lipos
- added an extra velcro strap to compensate for losing the top part of the tray
- replaced stock wheel hubs with M2C extended hubs
- adjusted the droop screws to limit the travel
- still experimenting with ride height and suspension setup, I don't wanna lose the plushness the Mojave is known for, but I do feel I need to stiffen things up a bit, the 8S electronics and lipos are adding to the weight
- trimmed the body and front bumper a bit to accomodate for the bigger Badlands, should trim some more but for now I'm gonna keep it from rubbing by moving the body up a little
- had to drill some extra holes in the body posts to get the body a bit higher

Time flies when you're having fun, so much I forget to take pictures. :banghead:
Next time I'll post some more though...

The weather outside is sh#t, raining 24/7.
What better time to do a sh#tty job, drywalltaping the body, at least some bits in the rear.
During my test runs I noticed this baby does complete backflips while rolling, without flooring the throttle for 100%.
So off course it's booty is bound to get cracked.
Automotive goop arrives in a few days to apply 1st coating, forecast for the next days is sh#tty weather...

Here is a great way to discharge Lipos. Good price, made just for discharging. Chargers are not very effective at discharging, justlook at the specs.
