So for the scx 10 iii im looking for new sliders as I don't like the look and all I can find are aluminum ones. They look good but since they're metal won't the catch on rocks compared to plastic ones sliding off the rock?

Plastic does the trick. All depends in the fit and travel too.

Personally, I’m fond of steel units as that’s what I installed in the center for my TRX4 Sport, Element Knightrunner, and CEN F450. Keep them well lubed and install a rubber boot as a precaution.

I say use 'em. I doubt you will have an issue other than them getting scratched up a bit. There are lots of steel sliders available but I personally wouldn't get aluminum if your terrain has sharp or rough rocks, aluminum tends to get sharp bits when it gets torn up.
