But yeah, that pinion
does look rather worn anyway, I would replace it just for that reason alone and evaluate for noise from that point. Your Tooth contact angle of the pinion is not matching well with the spur. Rather worn IMHO. Of course proper mesh matters in all cases. Mesh that is all too loose can also cause undue wear on pinions.
I like my mesh on the tighter side, with just the
slightest Tick of backlash..
Look to Tekno pinions when you do shop for one.
A properly meshed spur and pinion has a sound you get used to hearing. I can hear when my mesh is wrong or the gears are worn. They get clackity. Tighter mesh is more like a hum. The sound is always unique to the rig in hand. You should get used to hearing that.
