Welp, a few months ago I came across a v1 K8s roller deal that I couldn't pass up. It was brand new, minus the motor, ESC and radio. I had just enough cash to pick it up, and so I did!
Congratulations! It's an Orange!
And then it sat. For almost 5 months.
Turns out the motor combo I wanted carried both a hefty price tag AND limited availability. When I had the money, I couldn't find one for sale. And when they came back in stock... I never had the money. And then... it happened! I finally got my Castle Creations 2028/MMX8S combo.
And it's been about 2-3 weeks until I had the time. Yesterday I decided I'd finally get it on the road, and install the small pile of parts I had accumulated.
In there is the V1.5 chassis brace kit, a PPS k8s motor mount adapter plate for the 2028 (I happened to have a blemished one laying around I was saving for myself!) And I figured I'd plug up the diff.
Then I needed a radio. I desperately wanted a Futaba 7pxr. So I got a T4pm. Haha. Same thing. If you squint
I finally got it together to a point where I could plug it in. That's when I found out the motor was reversed. Boo. I had a castle link I had just seen 2-3 weeks ago. I put it in a safe spot because I knew I'd need it soon.
And I forgot where that place was.
I spent all day looking for it. I remembered where I found it in the first place, but not where I put it.
Turns out, I had tucked it in the motor box, and put the box away. Seems so obvious now... but I wouldn't even type this up if it wasn't quite an ordeal haha.
After I FINALLY got everything setup, radio channels switched, batteries fully charged, and everything buttoned up... it was finally time!
I got it on the ground and took its graduation photos. It'll never be this clean again.
I've been working non stop for months. While wrenching yesterday I found myself relaxing and enjoying working on my own rig. I haven't been able to do that for a long time. And then today, while choking on a cloud of dust and being pelted by rocks... I remembered why I truly love RC.
And I didn't break anything!
I've got a really gnarly idea for this thing... just finding the time to tinker..
But I'll keep this updated as things progress.
