One step closer to having a Holodeck...
It looks to me that those individual floor tiles are able to rotate in certain ways to "move" whatever object(s) resting on its top surface to act on or resist the motions ,as necessary.
They can make it to cover as large an area as necessary, I would imagine.. That way a whole lot of people can be in the same room and coordinate together while wearing VR headsets..
