The Arrma CVDs are a composite of metal and plastic. There are also Integy and GPM offerings, but most people don’t care for the quality of those brands, so buyer beware.
But to get to the root of your issue, if you are popping u-joints, your slipper is likely too tight. Also, once they pop the first time, they will always pop easier the second time. I throw mine out after the first time they pop. I only put fresh ones back in. My Typhon 3S is running either 6S or 8S lately and I no longer have a slipper, so I go thru quite a few sets.
