Yes.. start at the pinion ensure it is seated correctly with grub screw on the flat of the motor shaft then look at the clutch and make sure it's installed correctly and tight that it is not slipping ( manual should give you a starting point on clutch Set-up) and then look at you the internal gears of your gear box as suggested above by Rcdaddy...cheers....
Looks and sounds like its either top shaft gear or idler gear. Did you open up transmission?
