I’ve been trying to achieve this color depth using Tamiya paints and after multiple attempts I found the right combination finally.

The colors used are Translucent Red, Anodized Aluminum, and Black as the final backer.

Below will be the images in order of I how painted the multiple coats.

So Sweet!!

Those Tamiya clear colours are quite hard to get right, but when you do they look awesome
@RedondoBeachRC .. this is not me hijacking your thread, but I wanted to show you another version I tried and the only way to explain is with pics (y) It's so hard to show some paint colors on a computer, in the sun this thing has a deep color that pops with added rainbow flakes..!!

All Tamiya paints..
1.Lame flake
2.Clear red
3.Clear red ( I think I put too many coats tbh )
4.Gold
5.Black

I was torn between using gold as I didn’t want to end up with a copper color. But yours turned out exceptional!

When I try this again I’m thinking of adding a clear Pearl between the translucent color and backing color. I hoping it gives it another dimension.. I almost put a color shift before I did the aluminum.
Nice job! 😎 Very similar to "Candy Coating" paint jobs on 1/1 cars. I used to paint cars. My family owns a collision repair shop.
Very much the exact same but in reverse.. that’s the challenge painting in reverse, you don’t know how many layers of the candy are needed to get the exact color you want.

Looks awesome man! Great job! I have one of these destroyer bodies laying down. Might be time to pull it out and airbrush it.

For sure, definitely a nice body!

I was holding this one for awhile to airbrush but ended up selling my airbrush equipment and paints.
