It's just a spacer, comes stock on alot of 6s cars.
Prevents the pinion from getting into the motormount if it gets loose.

Not needed.

I use them on motors with a 5mm shaft. Saved me quite a few times where your pinion might come loose and back up into the mount or motor itself. I don't need them on 8mm motor shafts since the grubs are larger and the pinion usually goes on backwards.

Yes, exactly.
It should be metal though, if it's the oem part.

As mentioned above you don't really "NEED" this part but it does help...especially when you are first learning how to put a pinion on properly so that it stays. A loose pinion can do a lot of damage whether it spins off backwards into the motor or forward into everything else. This little piece can save a motor and/or motor mount at the least.

It goes on motor shaft in-between pinion and motor in case set pin come loose and pinion goes towards motor but I honestly don't see that happening prob just profit piece
