Mojave hobbywing 4985 8S Pinion Gear

hello i currently have the MAX6 - 4985 1650KV combo in the mojave.
my first question is the 4985 reliable in 8S? if so which pinon do you recommend with the 4985 in 8S?

It wasn't made for 8s but it can do it. A few of us around here have done it with zero problems but iirc most upgrade the bearings first. Pinion depends on how fast you want to go. Give me a speed and I'll give you a pinion. Welcome to the forums

I got a 4985 max6 combo. I was told, the motor isn't meant for 8s. If you don't mind a shorter life of that motor, go for it on 8s.

Hobbywing says that motor can only go up to 6S. I believe manufacturers know best when it comes to their products. If the motor was reliable on 8S, then Hobbywing would advertise it that way.

I think HW doesn't want people putting their motors to it's limits and complaining to them if it breaks.

I think the only thing that really makes that 1650 kv motor not so reliable at 8s are the bearings. They're cheap trash rated for low rpm.
