A duck! Keep in mind I live in the suburbs. Came home to this guy sitting on front lawn.

Yep could be tired and needed to rest. Also if you have farms etc around could be a pet that got lost.
Negative ghost rider... I’m closer to Newport Beach than a farm. There is a small man made lake nearby. I think the grass just looked to cushy to pass up.
 
Thats a drake greenhead, many down here in the south don't migrate and live here all year long and become tame. They stay in ponds, parks, lakes, anywhere where food is plentiful. Much sort after bird in the hunting game.
 
I know it’s no big deal for you guys that live in rural areas but the family is getting a kick out of it.
