We went on a road trip to checkout this "campsite" that our 10yr old will be attending later on in Nov, 2024 with her classmates..

They had an Open House for the parents to get familiar & check out the overall facilities and see what this camp will be about.

They're located way out in the woods approximately an hour north of DFW.

It's a really nice campsite..
427 acres
with plenty of amenities
Lots of kids activities and onsite security, during the camp events.

Individual buildings for
Dining
Educational Center
Individual cabins

It's an absolutely massive facility...
These photos are only of two buildings.. tucked Way deep in the woods..

That’s awesome. That can be a great experience that a young ‘un wont forget. I think that one pair of turtles is getting up to some shenanigans though. Funny, I’ve never really contemplated turtle sex before…

It's going to be Awesome experience for my girl..
Be a 3-day campout ,with about 4 other local schools of 5th graders.

They'll have-
Archery
Campfire stories
Canoeing
Fishing
Shelter building
Studying bugs and wildlife
Wood crafts

+
A ton of hiking and exploring around the woods!

Rain or shine.

Ain't kidding.
You should see the intensity!

He was giving her his All!
With the Best effort and Speed that he could muster.......

The fact that he was standing up on his hind legs at 90° to the ground ,plus or minus a degree or two.. while doing his deed..
Without having fallen backwards ,took lots of concentration and skills.

I went there as a chaperone for my son. The kids had fun.

The water was almost undrinkable so plan to bring your own. They must treat their own well water or something? It was terrible.
The little store near the dinning hall is not open very many hours so you may miss the chance to buy water/drinks there.

The camp beds are like sleeping directly on wood slats. Bring a pad or air mattress.

😬
Gotcha.

She'll take one of those LifeStraw™ drinking device or something.

Yeah..
We noticed that.
Felt like laying on a stack of 2x4"s..
We'll make sure she brings along a yoga mat or similar..

Thank you for the heads up. 👍

Liberty was so upset with the experience that he had to move to Tennessee!
But yeah, nothing a couple of bottles of water and a yoga mat won’t fix. But seriously, I firmly believe that “roughing it” is good for kids and gives perspective. It also not only makes them appreciate the better, more comfortable things but can also give them the knowledge to know they can survive and overcome their surroundings when they need to. That is a great life lesson. I know a lot of adults to this day that have never learned it.

LOL messing with an old man's sleep is no bueno!
The water made my son and I sick the first day and quickly switched to bottled water. The pool was empty at the time so possibly they gave us the water from the pool

May I ask.. what year was y'all's trip?

Cool, we had something very similar to that in our district when I was in elementary school. Lot of fun!

So a "secret" reason for posting this thread is mention what I happen to see on the way to the kids campsite...

Glimpsed a brand new private racetrack being built on the outskirts of this little town...

Appears that the owners a little aftermarket shop (LG Motorsports) some how got their hands on more land behind their place and literally carved out an racetrack out in the woods...

You would Never know it's there from the 121 Highway.
You can't see the raceway hidden behind the trees beside the main expressway..

It is a complete track now despite what Google maps shows there. I used to speed run RC cars on 121 there.
I parked on the side of 526 near the track and watched a viper and corvette runs some laps. It looks like a very nice track!!!
