Arrma RC's
  1. Senton Mega
Hey Guys and Gals,

Bought a Senton 2WD slider off Ebay with intention of building it into a SCT. Got as far as a roller and even painted up a body. Then balked and reverted to my open-wheel roots.

FedEx delivered a Typhon body and body mounts today. Looks like they'll work o.k. Have already completed a RR wing install.

Tested out on 2S. This build will go 3S . . . eventually. Power unit to date is 2s x 5000 LiPo, 85A ESC and 4000Kv sensorless motor. Tire set is P-L Demolisher with 14mm AL inserts on the Raid wheels. Radio system is Spectrum with ProTek steering servo.

More to come. Cheers. 'AC'

Here's the RR wing install. Fabricated out of a 1/2 x 3/4 x 4in 0.060in aluminum angle. Held securely in place on the Senton framework by two 1/4in nylon clamps. Had to wrap the Senton framework with short strips of black electrical tape to ensure tight fit of the clamps. Wing then attached to the AL angle mount. Wing is Arrma ARA480006 180mm.

That's pretty ingenious method of mounting a wing!
How do you prevent it from rotating on the round bumper bar?

Thanks, Tex. I've used this type of mount in another application. It worked well there.

The AL mount bears hard against the Arrma bumper bar so it is unable to rotate down. The clamping force is such that under normal use the wing will not rotate upward. Under extreme impact it can rotate upward-which may not be a bad thing. Might save a wing.

Attaching an underside view if you can make out the detail in shadow. Cheers. 'AC'

Settled on a pair of RR body posts. While waiting for the Arrma post set to arrive, plugged in a pair of DuraTrax 1 1/2in to see how the body sets.

Decided to move forward with an install of them. They fit the Arrma sockets perfectly. Only needed a cross-drill to fasten them in the Arrma manner. Too much play between the post collar and the body. Rather than raise the collar, opted to cut a pair of discs using 1/8in neoprene rubber and my trusty gasket punches. Should serve to isolate the body from vibration as well.

Have used DT body posts in all my builds. No need to change up now. Might jinx the build. Be Keeping the Arrma post set in the basher stash as back-up when they arrive.

Thanks for looking in. Cheers. 'AC'

Swapped out the M3x12mm wheel hex screws for a set (24) of M3x10mm. P-L aluminum inserts have a blind hole for the screw and was not comfortable with the depth they were going to. Was not certain they were not bottoming out over pulling the wheel tight against the insert. A.O.K. now though.

Passed the morning fabricating a speed run nose weight for the Senton. 1/2 x 1/2 x 3in steel key stock secured in place with (2) 1/4 x 1 1/2in stainless steel screws, lock washers and running nuts. Mounts to and hangs under the front bumper/monkey bar assembly.

Assembly weights in at 118g, 4.15oz. Past experience speed running a 2WD ST required a nose weight. Had the time. Figured, why not? Put this in place as a contingency.

Strange how this came about. Paint I'd like for the body is on back-order from one supplier. So ordered a painted body from another supplier currently challenged with some manner of order re-config. No joy there either. That left me time to peruse this forum and came across the Speed Demon sub and specifically LibertyMKiii thread 'AF 2S Speed run challenge'. So yeah, think I'll see what the Senton does on 2S. Just for grins.

Thanks for looking in. Cheers. 'AC'

Fabricated a speed meter mount from a scrap piece of Lexan body trim. Scrap piece even had a lip molded in serving as a stiffener and a speed meter movement limiter. Mount secured to the monkey bar rear bumper assembly with zip ties. Speed meter attaches with Velcro.

All she needs now is the pre-paint body-due in FedEx tomorrow and she be ready for shake down runs. Project is far from done, though. This is only the beginning. Cheers. 'AC'

FedEx delivered the body today for the conversion build. Arrma AR402274, Typhon 4x4 pre-paint. Fits the Senton 2WD chassis and body mounts no-problemo.

Being it's a Senton build, later today the Typhon sticker gets peeled off and a set of body clip retainers inserted. Still a build in progress, but she's about to make the leap from roller to runner. Be a 50% power-on shakedown out front of the house. Hopefully early tomorrow morning before it gets hot.

Thanks for looking in. Cheers. 'AC'

RC drag racing bug bit again. No prep 1/10 scale 33ft course with 67ft shut down. Out front of the house. Taking the lead from a full-size 330ft SoCal Street Legal Dragway in Perris. CA.

Running the Senton conversion stone stock project build. All the wrong stuff, but still great fun. Popped a PB of 23.6mph (38.23kph). 2s x 5300 60C LiPo, 85A ESC, and 4000Kv 3650 sensorless.

Cheers. 'AC'

Build progressing apace since last entry. Latest iteration finds a set of Pro-Line Icon SCT tires mounted to Arrma ARAC9461 14mm hex Short Course Wheels. Body is a clear Typhon with four internal coats of Tamiya PS-1 White backed with Tamiya PS-12 Silver. Stickers from JConcepts Hi-Flow decal sheet plus a couple from the basher stash.

On order is a HobbyWing 3660 can 3700Kv motor. On the shelf ready for install with it is a Boost 3S steel spur gear upgrade.

Still testing out with a 2S x 5000 100C LiPo. 3S at the ready once I make the power unit upgrades and install and upgrade diff package on the wish list.

More to come. Cheers. 'AC'

Busied myself yesterday upgrading the Senton 2S 2WD. Swapped in ARRMA metal slipper clutch/spur gear, 3700Kv 3660 can HW sensorless and changed over from Spektrum to Futaba radio system. Still using an 85A ESC. May eventually swap in a 100/120A but o.k. for now.

Got it a test session out front of the house at 50% THR between rain showers yesterday. Love hearing that metal gear growl. Sounds like. . . power.

Swapped in my 4PLS radio system to get the A.B.S. braking feature. Prefer it to keep from skidding the rear wheels at shutdown from runs. Works well for me and sounds cool too.

Eventually this build will flesh out in 2S DragSpec and 3S SpeedSpec config's.

Cheers. 'AC'

Weather finally moderated enough to get back in the shop and do the steel gear install RR diff. Bench check and test run both checked out o.k. Weather looking good for a next Sunday 2s dash with 20T pinion. Might even run it out past 132ft standard to a full 200ft.

Big shout out to ARRMA for their Boost upgrade/install YT vid. Saved me a lot of unnecessary steps and time. Easy-peasy upgrade. Last piece for the Senton 2S to do some Boost 3S runs. Cheers. 'AC'
