Guys,

Was running my Typhon today..

At some point.. At about 50mph.. Buggy started grinding gears.. Immediately let the throttle go in neutral, and let the buggy come to a rolling stop.. Then checked it out..

Quick find.. Pinion had a wobble in it.. Blew the front (pinion-side) motor bearing..
To get that confirmed.. I wanted to take of the pinion and open up the motor..

And there is my 2nd problem.. Pinion wont come of! After heating, grub screw came out no problem.. But the pinion is somehow stuck on the motor shaft.. It wont budge.. Nothing at all.. Any tips?

So at this point.. I need to fit a new bearing..

And finally.. These questions:
A: is my motor save-able..
B: if yes, are these motor bearings special quality?
C: if yes, where to get them?

With the damage to the rotor on the front end from where the bearing blew out I wouldn't recommend trying to save the motor. Once the Kevlar wrapping starts coming off the rotor loses a lot of its ability to hold the magnets on the shaft. I would just buy a new motor.

I think there is a motor/esc combo for sale in the Talion thread in the classifieds. Jenny’s RC had some last night also

That rotor is not save able. You’re asking for trouble if you re use it.
A replacement motor can be had for a good price if you keep your eye open.

Im european based.. Shipping and customs fees make the "cheap" US stuff expensive again..

Theres a european kit-breaker that sells motors for 55USD.. Goin to pull the trigger on one of those!

Rotation got my pinion loose, you have to break the loctite. Put the motormount back in the car, hold the rotor and push the car (with wheels) forward and backward so the spurgear will rotate the pinion, hope this helps!

Used more and more and more heat.. Eventually rotating the pinion with a pliers worked.. There was about half a bottle of red loctite on the shaft..

Glad you got it off. In the future an easy way to pop them off is to either put the gear in a vise or have someone hold it for you in vise grips, heat it up and tap the motor shaft with a punch. Place a pad under the motor for when it comes out completely.
