Looking at a durable smaller sized car for my 7 yr old. Not sure which would work best but I can get the e revo for the same price as the grom.

Perfect, this is exactly the information I was looking for. I think I'll go pickup a grom. Thank you

The Merv is a bit bigger than the Grom.

This is my Merv/1/16 Summit next to my 1/18 Ecx Ruckus, which is right about the same size as the Grom.

The Merv can be rather fragile, especially the diffs, front bulkhead, a arms, drive shafts, shocks and body mounts. The stock servo is notorious for taking a dump and causing electrical brown outs.

I say Grom.

Don't have a Grom but do have a Merv.

Really like that little RC. Have not had any issues with it beside a broken A-arm, Shoe Goo still holding 😆. I do only run it on 2s so maybe that helps.

The Grom looks like a tough little RC but I thought it was odd to see plastic sun/satellite gears given the heft of some of the surrounding parts.
