I wouldn't worry about the weight. I'm running metal axles, c-hubs, bellcrank and spindles.

I went a little over board on mine...plus I glued plastic washers to the body where it contacts the mounts. Had to remove a little to get the clip in.

Hit it with a heat gun when you are done too...it will help you form it to the body lines and may even bond better.

I did my granites with gorilla tape 2 layers and it as held up great

My ER-2.0 body took a long time to tape up but it was well worth it. I wish I would tape all my bodies first thing but get too excited when a new truck shows up and then it gets put off.
I also like to use a heat gun to clean it up and helps to get rid of the fish-mouths.

Yeah... Mine didn't end up anywhere near nice lookin. No pics... Apparently I get impatient when taping the side of a body I don't see much! Maybe I'll just stick with shoe goo, at least its clear and somewhat self leveling.
