Arrma RC's
  1. Gorgon
I probably should make a build thread for each car but I tend to shuffle parts from one build to another.

December of 2023 I wanted to build a 1 to 1 of my real Bronco. Went up in the attic to dig around for an Axial Crawler I had from a few years ago. Pulled 2 totes out labeled RC Cars to find all I kept was my RC10T mixed with other childhood stuff. So I ordered a Element TrailRunner to keep me busy.

First up was to ditch the Toyota Body asap on ebay, it needed to go to a loving home. Went with a proline Bronco Body since it was 190mm and didn't require much chassis modification. In an attempted to match my real bronco I got as close as I could with Tamiya paint spray cans.

Beeeeeutiful 😁👍♥️

So a few weeks latter I stopped by Ace Hobby Shops in Vacaville instead of sitting in traffic and they had a Gorgon. I had seen a few videos, I wanted to run my RC10T but this was new. Opened the box when I got home and it was red! Not a bad thing but not what I though I bought.

Did the Gorgon shrink??
Or those are mighty big dogs..

After a few weeks later while googling Gorgon shock oil I ended up here! Found the deals thread... So I bought some CST 420 shock oil, 30K Diff fluid and a MT10 add in to get free shipping. Almost dead even with the Gorgon bashing around the front yard. Gorgon really is just funer around the front yard, but I wanted to try another 4x4 MT again. My nieces and some of our friends kids came over and ran my fleet of (Trailrunner, gorgon, MT10) cars and preferred the Gorgon. I am pretty sure the Gorgon was the favorite because I couldn't turn the throttle down past half way!

That's a little horse in the house...

Back to RCs... The Brushless MT10 was a bit disappointing power wise, I though about gearing it down but I impulse bought a brushless setup and some 5mm pinions. World of difference! I haven't had a brushless car in 5 years? Last one had cogging issues and blew my HPI trophy trucks guts all over the pavement. Not sure if this was a good idea but I am limiting myself to 2s as my at home play area is not large enough. Also stuck in a Rlaarlo 8ch that I ordered a while ago for the Gorgon.
1710181812280.png

The gorgon go a much needed throttle limit adjustment at the same time. One arrma radio box and reedy hand me downs! So far the kids only killed one sprinkler and a flower pot in the front yard. This should take it down to acceptable speed with the Associated radio. Also threw on a smaller 12T pinion which really helps cut all the bog out of tall grass.

Meanwhile I was googling some kits and found a deal I couldn't pass up. Only issue is they had 3... I needed 4

On to fleabay for the 4th car! Body was a little to ruff, so I made it mine! Swapped the Gorgon spektrum combo esc, MT10 servo and MT10 brushed motor.
1711320822279.png

While shopping for another ECX Amp, I bought a MT8. Which immediately got a new 35kg servo(the MT10 got the MT8s servo) and arrma turn buckles! Absolutely to much vehicle for my run area. I really like it but I run out of runway in front of the house. Going to keep it another week and see. Most likely going to send it packing and try something else.

My 5th ECX amp mt should be here today, this one looks like a clean roller that I can put the electronics I took out of the orange mt.

Cool! I put Senton rear shocks on my Gorgon w 375cst. Gorgon front shocks w 500cst. 30k Kyosho diff grease (blue) Heck of a lot better with a brushless system!! 3500kv 3660 can. 100a Infraction 3s ESC.

I am keeping it brushed for a while longer, it's just the right speed for my run area. Also not trying to murder the gorgon's tires before I find some decent Chevron replacements.

My other ECX amp came in and it's clean!

Pictures didn't load yesteday, going to swap in electronics here at lunch and give it buzz around the yard.

Waiting for a few parts so I dug out the WLTOYS 144001 and messed around with it again. Its a Rlaarlo rebadge and has been junk since day one. By far my least favorite RC...

In an attempt to like it again I bought 15t, 17t, 19t pinions and a 380 motor mount. So a 15T pinion and a 380 Tamiya Sport Tuned is faster than the stock silver can and 27t pinion. Did a pass on 3S before the motor got to hot. Apparently a sport tuned 380 is 22,000 rpms at 4v...
1710450323322.png

So I ordered an adjustable motor mount off Amazon for $7 because I didn't want to wait another 2 weeks. Several hour latter with a file, drill and dremel I have a 550 silver can and a 15T pinion! Finally got to run an entire 2S battery through the thing with no heat issues. Hot swapped in a 3S and got through that pack. This is the most run time I have ever gotten out of the thing. Power drifts on pavement like a boss in 2S and at 1/4 throttle on 3S!
1710450500066.png

In conclusion I ordered a truggy conversion from AliExpress because I am really trying to love this thing. Will need new differentials pretty soon the out drive cups are wearing fast. I think I am at $120 with like 5-6 small battery packs through it, how can people like these? Mine is crap. Way past my return date off amazon and rlaarlo is crickets(in need a transmitter that doesn't drift its neutral settings).
1710451156408.png

Amazon showed up today with some tires. Overall super happy with how these perform in the front yard. Going from asphalt to lawn with a sprinkle of 3s power and they didn't tear or fly off! They are just a bit wider and a tad taller. The stock tires are good but they are to soft for pavement.

1711321043698.png

1711321081766.png

So between AliExpress and a CNHL delivery the MT10 went from drivable to near impossible not to spin out or flip over. So on my cheap 2s batteries the surpass motor has more wheelie power and speed than the same KV hobbywing motor. On 3s 5000 65c cnhl battery its practically undrivable! Absolutely bonkers! So the 35kg servo is definitely not fast enough at this point.
