My grandson (7 years old) and I been running my old rc’s for a bit (Savage X 4.6, TMaxx 3.3, Slash 4x4 w/7 cell, etc). He’s pretty capable at controlling and bashing them. I’m getting him a Vorteks 3S 4x4 and was wondering if I should go with 2S or 3S batteries as I’m not that familiar with the lipos.

Welcome to the Forums!

The "S" is the number of cells. 2S=2 cells/ 3S=3 cells.

More S's mean more power, so I'd start with 2S.

The big difference between LiPo and Nimh, for the user, is you have a balance port. The balance port has the voltage of each cell in the pack. It's critical that they all stay with in spec. Don't worry though, the charger will do that for you.

Also make sure you put them in storage charge when your are done.

There are a bunch of posts on the care and feeding of LiPos. I won't repeat it here as it's been said 100 times, but if you have question feel free to post them.
