Can you use the second battery connection to power an external BEC?

May be a dumb question, but is it a bad idea to use the 2nd battery hookup on a kraton to power an external BEC? All the videos / install guides I can find tap into the ESC wires, but it seems silly since I always run single packs, and there's a nice factory connection right there.
