How are you liking the Mamba X? I almost ran that over the Max10 SCT.

I ran one in my original Granite and I still have one in my Senton. It's a great little ESC with lots of programming options and data logging. I also run it in my Rock Rey.

It seems like it would be a beast of an ESC with 160A and indestructible with the aluminum case.

Playing in the cold I broke 2 of the rod ends and just replaced them with Team Associated #89065, they are alittle bigger in diameter but do somewhat work with the stock springs. Fronts seem fine but the rears were squishing the cups in alittle far because they are spread apart more, so the rears now have the front HSP springs.

How were you able to use the HSP springs on the stock shock body? I ordered the HSP shocks (Shock Absorber Front 81003N (118MM);Rear 81002N (137MM) 1/8 RC CAR HSP Redcat) 3 weeks ago and the springs are a slightly larger diameter and so they do NOT fit on my stock shock bodies.

Anyone try the Typhon 6s springs with the HSP shocks? I may give this a try.... My LHS has the springs in stock...

I have seen conflicting information on these HSP shocks and so I want to share my findings so others may benefit. There are bits of info on these HSP shocks scattered overs numerous threads and so I am going to try and put as much as I can here in the correct post. I remember someone posting about these HSP shocks being a good fit for him but also that somehow they were diff specs (or dimensions) from one order to another order at some point in there.

But backing up for a bit. My Factory Front shocks both leaked in the first 2-3 runs. I took them both apart, inspected them and re-filled them with oil. The only thing I did differently (which I don’t know if it even helped at all) was I put some Associated Factory Team Green Slime on the o-rings inside the shock cartridge and am happy to report that I have had no issues since. Done.

In the meantime I did order some of the HSP Front 81003N & Rear 81002N alum shocks that everyone was talking about b/c I wanted an adjustable alum shock. They were inexpensive and so I figured I would give them a shot. $17.76 + $3 for shipping. They took (14) days to arrive. They appear to be good quality shocks as far as I can tell. I don’t know enough about springs and so I can’t comment IF they are a good option for the ARRMA Granite BLX that I own.

The first thing I noticed is the eye to eye dimension given in the Product Description does not match what I rec’d. Front 81003N - 105 mm (stated) but I measured as 111.9 mm with my calipers. Sure that is only 6.9 mm longer but it is different than stated. The same goes for the Product Description on the Rear 81002N - listed as 122 mm but I measured with the calipers as 130.15 mm. 8.15 mm longer. I have attached a bunch of pictures I took here and want to make sure ppl understand that while the camera angle may be misleading the given dimensions from my caliper readings are accurate.

I have seen people post about using the factory springs on these HSP shocks. How!?! I cannot put my factory springs on the shocks I received. See pictures. The ARRMA shock body is listed as 8mm (front) and 15mm (rear) where the body on these HSP shocks is listed as OD 23mm.

I mounted the Front shocks last night and the first thing I noticed is the springs touch the drive shaft. However I think I can make the Front HSP shocks work with maybe one minor modification (putting a spacer on the screw at the suspension arm in order to put some space in between the spring and the drive shaft) and also putting a spacer on the screw holding the shock cap to the shock tower in order to push the eye ‘forward’ towards the front bumper and away from the drive shaft. I would still need to test if the shocks will perform.

The good news is that I have been BASHING the hell outta my new Granite 4x4 BLX 3s with the factory shocks since I re-filled them with no issues. At some point however I def want an adjustable set of shocks. Maybe I can get these HSP’s to work…maybe not.

The last 6 pictures from my above post. I am postings pictures of the gap between the Factory shocks and the drive shaft on the FRONT vs an installed HSP shock where you can see there is little to no gap between the drive shaft and the spring. I didn't get a chance to get to the Rear shocks just yet but either way I am going to run the Factory shocks on the front and rear until I figure out if I can get these HSP shocks to work.

People who are swapping shocks ae talking about the 81002/3 set, not the 81002/3N set. The 81002/3 set is a bit longer than the 81002/3N set. The diameter of the springs of the 81002/3 set are the same as the stock shocks.

thanks @Heliopolis for showing the difference between the original and hsp shocks ?Which choice is then the best? I am waiting to get feedback and then ordering the shock absorbers ... but I'm always quite confused what shock to get for the best result ... hsp 81002/3N <--- ( I guess not) 81002/3 or arrma typhon 6s shock ?

The jury is still out on the ones I got (Front 81003N & Rear 81002N) but I would like to think I can make them work with some modifications. I don't know enough about these 81002/3 to say. I think if $ is not a big concern then the Typhon 6s shocks seem to be the way to go b/c people KNOW the work. However the availability seems to be an issue and now we are back to where we began. ;-)

I'll ask again, do the Typhon springs fit on the 81002/81003 shocks?

You prob are not asking me but... if the "diameter of the springs of the 81002/3 set are the same as the stock shocks" as @Megasty mentioned above... then I would say NO. Typhon springs are bigger than stock Granite BLX springs.

What springs are you using on your 81002/81003?

The springs that come with the fronts are ok, but in feel like the rear is way too firm and they are way too long. Are you guys putting limiters inside the shocks?

They look awesome with my Castle motor. Pretty close to the same color.

I used nitro fuel line pieces in the shock caps to mount them for now.
Tekno RC Shock Cap Bushings

https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKREM

These pop right into the top eyelet and make it so there is barely any gap.

Barely any gap between the screw and ID or between the eyelet and shock tower?

It only have a tiny gap from screw to ID. It honestly was better than when i used wire insulation. From shock tower to eyelet I no longer had to run washers to make up for the distance.

Has no one else tried the stock Arrma pivot ball set? It's the set with the bushings for the shocks and turnbuckles. Part number AR330515..... I just pushed those through the top holes and it seems to be a great fit. No other mods needed. This (if it works on the road) seems to me to be the most straightforward way to hook them up... I have the 81002/81003 set on my granite 3s blx.... HSP springs in the front. Stock Arrma springs in the rear. See pictures.

Well done and thank you for the detailed post... I will hold fire on purchasing these for my Granite. I am about to order the non N models and will post pictures in 4-5 weeks upon arrival.
Thanks.
