Arrma RC's
i wanna upgrade my shocks. Anyone have suggestions? To say I launch my Outcast is a understatement. I want something beefier..

Maybe the Nero shocks might fit. Just a thought?

Not really interested in arrma stock stuff. I need something a little more rugged.

These will do the trick. I just got them, but have yet to put the together. I think the rear is 2 or 3 MM short of the stock. I am waiting on some Team Ass Green Slime. I got the 4 hole piston, though I am thinking I probably want a couple more holes.

Check out the Kraton Forum, we have this thread going one over there.

Here are the rear shocks mounted on a kraton (not mine). Like @Vanning said, they might even be too nice to bash with em.

Here they are installed on my Kraton. 4mm coated shafts, with 4 hole derlin pistons. NO issues yet, and have been jumping higher and higher.

did you need to change the shock mounts? what did you have to do to retrofit the tekno's?

You will need to order the Tekno Standoffs and the Tekno Bushings. The standoff has an M4 size post, and the stock has an M3. So you have drill out the hole, on the shock tower just slightly. Also if you buy the full option shocks, you will also need to buy some pistons. You could take the pistons out of the stock shocks, but that’s twice the work. I like having back up parts and having a full set of ready to go back up shocks makes me all warm inside.

I do want to disclose, the shocks are not cheap and don’t really make a huge difference in how the car drives. The stock shocks are pretty solid in the Outcast and Kraton. But they have their weak spots as we have all seen. I have never bent a rod, or broken a rod end and have also never blown a shock cap, on either the stocks or the Teknos. I figure that is just a matter of time though. And with the thicker shaft and beefy rod ends, the Teknos will end up being an investment that will not show it’s worth for another year. If I can still say the shocks have not broken, then, I’ll be stoked.

I literally buy the outcast shocks by the handful and break shafts or the rod ends 3-4 a week, most the shafts though. The shafts have been on backorder for months but once they are in I can rebuild the pile i have here. And I found the shocks with pistons and springs pretty cheap, they can also be found used dirt cheap and fully assembled. Thanks for the guidance buddy and quick response!

Are you using Tekno pistons? If so, which Tekno pistons are most similar to the stock Arrma ones? Which do you suggest?

I am using the full option shocks from the Teckno ET48.3 and the 4 hole tapered derlin pistons. Is that the best option? I have no idea. The total hole area is 10.2MM sqrd. They have several other pre-drilled pistons and pistons that have just dimples, so it's easy to drill out your own holes. I am using 80mt shock fluid on all four corners, and I figured the larger holes allow the thicker fluid to pass with out making the back end super stiff. So far so good.

I have a set of the tekno shocks as well but I did not order the full option kit. The kit I ordered included pistons but had the regular shafts instead of the coated shafts.
My pistons were also nothing like the arrma pistons but seem to perform well with the same weight fluids, maybe slightly heavier to get the same dampening.

The shafts were still 4mm though right? I am not sure how much the golden coating is helping or is needed on a basher, but bullet proof is bullet proof, even if you are just shooting BBs at it.

Has anyone tried pistons with the little flappers that open up on rebound to give the shock quicker rebound? I think this way you would be able to run pretty thick fluid and ride a bit smoother.
