Oh I hear you... I look at it and think the same thing - shelf queen. I really take care of my rc’s; no water or mud ever. I like tarmac, grass fields, and sand dunes :D

was talking to friend with nitro boat and mentioned it had a 40mm muffler brace.

Interested in your gearing suggestion also. More detail please.

Thank,

Justin

Hi Joostin, nice build, I have couple of questions, the 40mm muffler brace, how do you fix it to the chassis? can you slide it for gear mesh? Thx!!

Drilled chassis hole and used recessed bit for flush screw. It is only one hole right now for 20t pinion meshed. I have not had a chance to run this yet since finished. Been working on the xmaxx and wife’s new 1:1 truck o_O

This guy is running the HW max 5 with the 4070cm 2200kv on 8s without problems; curious why you suggest the castle xlx versus the HW max 5?

Is there a pre-made cap pack I can add to the HW max 5?

I am only going to be running 6s. Planning on upping gearing to 20/50 pinion/spur. The rear motor brace should make the mounting solid and stiffen up the chassis at the same time once I layout the recessed hole-slot to secure it.

Thanx,

Justin
The HobbyWing MAX6 & MAX5 HAVE BUILT IN BEC's

I think that somewhere I was inquiring about using the built-in bec of the hobbywings versus a secondary bec. I decided to try using the built-in.

I have not gotten a chance to run the Kraton yet because I have been working on the xmaxx project and the wife’s new 1:1 truck

I wasn't sure because of the post that he replied to didn't really make sense with what he was saying. I didn't know if he was implying that the Castle XL X doesn't have an internal BEC or what he was getting at.

Itching after running the redcat be6s after daughters softball game yesterday.

Swapped over to backflips; prepping and getting ready for the maiden voyage soon. Actually kind of nervous

All I can say is wow! This thing is fast! The wing/wheelie bar extension mount design lowering the wheelie bar was worth the effort - actually could have gone slightly lower. Very stable at the height it is though. My daughter ran her outcast first run also and can tell the difference with the stock location.

These tires handle way better than I was anticipating! Very surprised with the power I am putting down they don’t balloon hardly at all. The contact patch of the tires are very flat and wide. For $40 dollars a set they are awesome.

In part 2 video you can see the rear end kick out just slightly at the 15sec mark only because there was some debris on the tarmac. Other than that these tires grip very well.

the built-in bec works just fine

Rebuilt and shimmed all 3x diffs with 60/200/30k oil. Center has a little play front-back and is going to need some bearing shims.

Does anyone have a part number for the bearing shim on the left side of front and rear diffs? The one hanging in 5th pic below.

Justin
Have you noticed a difference between the Hot Racing diff cups vs the stock cups?

Yes, my daughters outcast is almost completely stock. Her diffs leak slightly and it is louder. I have her running 16/50 pinion/spur on 6s.

the tp 4070cm 2200kv motor on 6s is approximatley 8hp and I am 99% positive that the diffs would have grenaded if I didn’t build them up. I used hr diff cups, hr gearcases/bulkheads, full hr motor mount with center diff brace, and hr top plate.

Everything has held up great and it puts a smile on my face every time. it is the fastest truck I have run in 30 years of the hobby :D

Do you use the same amount of shims with the HR cups that you would use with the stock cups? Also I heard that the HR cups act as a heat sink for the gears and keep them cooler since they are aluminum. Do you think it make that big of a difference?

I did use the same amount of shims suggested by everyone 2x1, 2x1 behind the planetary gears.

The hr cups keep everything nice and tight and do dissapate heat and keep the diffs cooler. I am positive the diffs would have grenaded if they were not upgraded; I have seen many diff explosions running lesser power.

Little end of the day parking lot fun :D
