So I decided to take some Typhon and Mojave parts to make another Typhon 6S. My other T6S is truggified and runs 2.8MT tires. I miss having a buggy too, so I built one from parts on hand. It is a mash up of Typhon RTR, EXB, and Mojave EXB parts that I took off the MEXB build. I will try to catalog all of the important bits below.

Arrma EXB Parts

Beeeefy!

Took it out again today for some drag hits on S7 GRPs and did another 3.000s 188ft hit. This was still on 18/50 gearing. Decided to try out 20/50 next go around. Hoping to break the 3.000s mark.

Are the shocks, towers, and a-arms from the Mojave all longer than the Typhon? That looks like a well-balanced rig, have you had it off road yet?

Only the towers are MEXB. Rest is Typhon RTR. As far as off road, does the ditch count? 🤣🤘🏻 No it hasn’t purposely been off road yet. I might try that tomorrow.

Change of plans…. Time to let her stretch out a little 😉

Parts updated:

Arrma parts
Mojave EXB chassis, braces, center driveshafts
Limitless front shock tower
Limitless front shocks
Felony front splitter

Other parts
Diff lockers in F/R
Body extension from spare lexan sheets
eBay wheelie bar
Sweep Racing Max Forward Soft foams

So yesterday I took the beast out for some 0-40 shakedowns. Was able to match my all time PB of 0.940s (Drag Infraction 8S) with the stretched Typhon on 6S with a mild setup of a MAX8, Leopard 4275 2200kv, and 14/46 gearing. Broke both F&R diff output shaft pins on the left (driver) side. Thought I had some Mugen pins that would fit, but they are just a tad too large. Also thought I had drill blanks to cut, but can’t find them. I placed an order for some more from MMC. Had to put stock Arrma pins back in to get by.

While I was at it, I decided it was time to put the TP 4070 2250kv motor in. I left the MAX8 for now as I didn’t want to put the MMX8S in just yet. I want to see how this runs so I can directly compare the MAX8 vs the MMX8S, which shouldn’t even be a fair competition. More so I want to get a baseline before putting the MMX8S in and ensure this setup doesn’t cog.

Now the one issue I have today is I don’t have a large selection of 8mm bore pinions yet. I have a large selection coming soon. So I can’t gear it for 0-40 just yet. Gonna give it some 188ft pulls on 4S instead. Might even give it a 6S speed run for S&Gs.

I will be running 25/46 today

Well another day another diff pin busted. Time to throw EXB diffs in it and leave the world of broken pins behind. Ended up breaking and locking the tire during a speed pass and sent it hard left into the ditch. No real damages as the grass is high and thick due to all the rain. It may have never actually touched the earth. Just landed on top of waist high thick grass.

Learned that 25/46 with GP5 diffs is way too fast for 0-40 pulls. I put the TP 4070 2250kv in there in place of the Leopard 4275 2200kv. The MAX8 didn’t push it very long before cutting out on 188ft pulls and petered out at 96mph on a 6S speed pass attempt.

So stepping down on the diff from 15/42 to 10/43 will help with my pinion gear selection issues. It should also take away any diff durability concerns too. Gonna swap them and the MAX8 tonight and hope to get it back out tomorrow if it doesn’t rain all day.

Time for another update. Decided to make some speed runs with this bad boy after seeing my man @Notorious J out there killing it with his stretched Typhon. I might go back to drag hits later, but for now, I dropped in a 34T spool and a 34T pinion. Since I have GP4 EXB diffs in this rig, 34/34 should be good for about 110-115mph on 6S. I am going to resist going 8S as long as I can, much to the dismay of @Camaroboy383. I gave up on open wheel early on in my speed runs and feel like the time is right to give it another shot.
