I bought a Big Rock as an early birthday gift to myself and took it out thrashing today after work this evening. I mostly stayed on the street and followed random cars because it was funny. I stayed a safe distance back, no worries.

Overall, this truck is pretty damn solid. I managed to lose control and smack a curb at about 35 to 40 mph and flip a dozen times until it stopped. But it didn't break. Nothing at all. It just kept going for it man! It has great throttle response, handles grass well and it just moves! But it's not without it's problems.

The suspension feels a bit too soft. It bottoms our way too easily. Swapping to different shock oil should help.

The stock tires balloon way too easily. And they're already narrow as it is. This makes it hard to maintain control at it's maximum speed beyond short bursts.

Here's what I have on hand for mods, because I watched a lot of YouTube on this truck while I waited for it to arrive. And now I see why it needs some adjustments.

Outcast 4S Trull Roll Hoop
25kg Annimos Servo
Hot Racing Servo Saver
Hot Racing 17mm wheel adapters +10 offset
ProLine Badlands MX28 Wheels/Tires
RPM Typhon A Arms
TBone Racing Aluminum Front Bumper

Still waiting on Jenny's RC to restock the Typhon tie rods. Also debating on fixing a Kraton 4s center brace and possibly a wing. But I am not a big fan of the Outcast wing so I may try to see if I could potentially fit a Typhon or Kraton wing. When the Big Rock body takes a dump, I am going to be converting the truck over to a Kraton 4S body. At the rate I'm going, this body is going to be destroyed in no time. 🤣🤣🤣

If you have any suggestions, the comments are open!

Edit: 6/7/2021
Updating photos regularly as mods are put on. Here is a list of everything that is currently on the truck!

ProLine Badlands MX28 17mm
Hot Racing 17mm Hex +10mm offset
RPM A-Arms front & rear
Outcast 4S Truck Roll Hoop
Typhon 3S Wing & Mount
T-Bone Racing XV6 Front Bumper
Kraton EXB 6S Front Shocks(on rear)
Mojave EXB 6S Front Shocks(on front)
Team Associated Yellow Springs(front & rear)
Arrma CVD Slider Drive Shafts(rear only)
Annimos 25kg Servo
Hot Racing Aluminum Servo Saver

*Mojave shocks came in, but they're different sizes. Currently waiting for the second batch to come in from my ebay seller, they are not currently on the truck*

If you have any questions about my mods, feel free to ask. This was an incredibly fun build so far! I will, at some point, convert the body to a 4S Kraton body(painting myself). For now, I'm just going to enjoy this as is.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRUCK
It's super tuff , fast , and easy to work on , get metal ball ends the plastic ones turn to dust and If I didn't have all the spare stock shocks like i do go pro line if you want big air needs beefier shocks or just prepare to straighten alot like i do . HMM could be my driving, NAaaaa ,hahaha

Update on my build:

Installed the Hot Racing 17mm +10 offset adapters and a set of Badlands. I don't have the right screws for the roll hoop yet, still waiting on my front bumper to arrive, don't feel the servo upgrade is necessary yet and ordered a few new parts. I have a Typhon 3s wing/mount coming from Jenny's RC and I also ordered a front set of Kraton 6s and Mojave 6s shocks with the Axial bushings and Team Associated Yellow Springs. This should help reduce bottoming out like a cinder block and keep me more stable on speed pulls.

So it’s the same shocks as my granite (just finished ordering the exact same set up for my granite)? I’m getting a big rock next month, just hadn’t checked on the shock interchange. I know so many of the parts are…

Yeah, so the entire 3S BLX line have mostly interchangeable parts from what I've seen. The Granite and Big Rock having the most in common. So yes, they both use the same shock set up. On my Granite Mega, the shocks are really good. Not to firm or soft. The Big Rock is just too soft. It could be because the Big Rock is heavier, but I can't confirm as I never weighed them. As for this set up, you use the Kraton shocks on the back and Mojave on the front. It's a solid alternative to the Typhon 6s shocks and half the price. But a lot of people say the springs are too strong so that's why I'm going with the Team Associated spring set up.

This car hooks up too well. So the suspension really needs to be tightened up. And although it's not needed, the servo is a little underpowered for short grass. It still does it's job, but I feel like there will be less strain on the front end if the servo can handle things better.

Oh and I had a damn slider drive shaft pop off the rear axle! Check it out below! It's not broken, literally just flew off after riding a looooooong ass wheelie!

Yes, this is a big reason for my wanting a big rock for my first 3s blx. I’m converting my granite to brushless but can’t wait for Father’s Day lol. That big rock is so damn sweet…

Man, you have no idea. Watching all these bashing videos on the BRCC in action versus actually experiencing it is totally different. This sucker RIPS on the street and grass. I will be taking it to a local park soon where there is a massive, open field, plenty of hills and 4 baseball diamonds. But first, I need to fix the rear drive shaft. 🤣

It’ll still be at least a month. And I’ll be working on converting my granite starting mid June or so. When I mountain biked years ago I loved to jump. So I really want to build my granite up to handle big air. Big rock I will be building for trail running I think.

If you want big jumps, I'd definitely invest in good shocks and wheels. Don't go with too many aluminum parts though. They're more expensive and are more likely to bend.

Yup got Mojave/Kraton shox (and TA yellow springs)…I like the stock granite tires until I know better lol
I don’t go in much for alloy upgrades. Maybe hr yolks. Still researching there.

I always start slow. Currently have worked up to 10-12’ table tops, bout 7-8’ vert at a bmx bmx park. Most I can get out of the brushed mega 550 so far. So will start from there. Slowly.

I can say im not even there yet. Breakage issues and too much work issues have made for the slowest part of learning. But pretty decent on dirt/asphalt rain running. Jumping speed bumps. But seems to be hard on the front end due to how they are shaped. No bmx/skate park thats not over run with skaters

I put on a new set of V3 Granite tires first thing, didn't even run the stock BR tires because I knew they sucked. Handles good and only $45 for the set.

I did the same. Bought a Big Rock and Granite wheels together. Never used the Big Rock wheels and sold them on eBay. Fees and shipping included, it cost about £7 extra to get the Granite wheels

I would not get hot racing 17mm conversion go to Jenny’s rc and buy the Typhon 3s driveshafts and hexes. 3 piece turnbuckles are weak get the Mega full composite plastic ones run them on 3 of our 3s cars.
