HobbyKing esc and motor combo any good?

A quick Google search only brought up places selling the esc. The only videos I could find on Youtube for that system were either unboxing videos or people having issues.

It appears to be a cheap Hobbywing XR8 clone.

But for about the same price you can get this https://www.banggood.com/Hobbywing-...erica&rmmds=myorder&ID=45586&cur_warehouse=CN make sure to order option 1, option 2 has an extra 10 days processing time, either way you will have to change the plugs.

that doesn't look like my Hobbywing setup, I would say stay away from that one.

They aren't bad if you get a good one. But they appear to have a high failure rate though.
