Greetings all,

Just sharing my Typhon 3s build I've been working on for a couple months. This project started out as just a normal Typhon 3s build made 90% from extra Jenny's spares in my inventory. At first I planned to make it a truggy with some Badlands 2.8s but later decided to make it a dedicated speed runner vehicle because I don't have any cars like that yet. When I started I had a reasonable 4s capable system (Hex10 esc + 2800kv 4s motor) but decided to push the envelope and try to stuff a 6s system in it.

Anyways here's the build sheet thus far:

  • BLX 185 (3-6s) esc + Arrma 6s (2050kv, 4074 size) motor w/ Hot Racing adjustable motor mount and HobbyStar dual fan heatsink
  • 4s metal spur/slipper
  • DS3225 servo
  • 6s Shocks shortened and made more stiff for speed runs
    • Mojave springs in front, Kraton 6s springs in rear, shafts shortened 10mm front/8mm rear
  • GRP 1/8 scale (98mm) wheels/tires
  • Hot Racing 17mm w/+10mm offset hex adapters
  • RPM Typhon arms
  • Traxxas XO-1 tie rods
    • Stock typhon tie rods were hard to find at the time so I rolled the dice on the XO-1 rod set on Jennys. These seem to be a pretty good alternative, just need some washers/spacers in a couple of places but other than that the length is good with a little adjustment
  • Typhon 6s wing
  • 50k front/30k rear diff oils
  • Full rubber sealed bearings throughout
  • Lots of custom designed 3D printed solutions
    • TPU wing mount, nylon front speed bumper/wing, PETG custom receiver box lid, PETG esc mounting plate, TPU dual fan cover, TPU SkyRC GPS speed meter case/front body post mount, and a few other odds and ends
What I am most proud of with this build is how clean the install came out with the use of the 3D printed parts I had to design/make. Getting the 6s system to fit was a challenge because the 6s system is a lot larger than the 3/4s system and is too long to fit in the bottom chassis tray and too tall to stack the esc on top of the receiver box because of the the Typhon body low vertical clearance. In order to make it fit I cut the receiver box portion in half and made a 1 piece printed lid solution that allowed me to close the box back up giving just enough room for the receiver itself and wires. I am really proud of how that turned out considering it was all done from scratch (pics added to show how I pulled that off).

Currently I've been testing on a 21T pinion until I get the hang of things and then will be bumping up to a 26T pinion assuming no major design failures/breakages, but so far so good. Definitely requires a lot more skill to control than I expected.

Any heat issues with there not being much air flow between the esc and motor? Loving the 3D printed stuff. Nice work!
Nothing yet, but I haven't maxed out it's potential. So far only ran it up to 4s at the movie theater parking lot since it's closed down for now. I'm still waiting on 6s packs to arrive in the mail since I never had any cars that ran 6s until now. Even then I am hoping heat won't be an issue with the cooling that's been added, lighter overall weight vs 6s trucks, lighter/smaller wheels, etc.
