Welcome to the Northern Illinois R/C Meetup!

We meet the second Sunday of every month at 2 PM. Anyone is welcome to join with any make, model, or fuel type of vehicle. Spectators are welcome as well - encourage your non-R/C friends to come check it out so they can see the fun they are missing.

We changed locations for the August meetup and have continued to receive positive feedback. We will continue to meet at Indian Lakes Open Space for the foreseeable future. Indian Lakes was formerly a golf course that permanently closed at the end of the 2016 golf season. The golf course is now maintained by the Village of Bloomingdale as an open green space, using the old golf cart paths as hiking and biking trails. There are two large grassy areas right next to the parking area for off road bashing, along with a large open parking area for street bashing. The street bash area does have some rough spots, I recommended you increase the ride height of your on road vehicles. The layout for the meetup is below.

Street Bash Loop Direction
All cars need to go the same direction to avoid head-on collisions. All drivers need to communicate the track direction. Drivers can choose to change the track direction during the course of the meetup. Please communicate with all other drivers in the Loop Driver Area before changing directions so that everyone is aware.

Swap Meet!
Bring anything you would like to sell or trade: parts, vehicles, tools, accessories, etc. Bring some cash to buy other people's stuff!

DO
Bring any make, model, or fuel type of ground based R/C vehicle.

DO
Bring your family and friends.

DON’T
Bring your pets. No matter how well trained they are, there is always a possibility they can do something unpredictable, which could cause themselves or someone else to get hurt.

DON’T
Drive your R/C vehicle in the parking area. You may drive it to your bashing area of choice once you have left the parking area.

Vehicle Damage:
All collisions between R/C vehicles are considered no fault accidents. Collisions are an inevitable part of the hobby. No one is held responsible should damage occur to your R/C vehicle. Drive your R/C vehicle at your own risk.

It is going to be so cold that day.

With how the weather has been who knows... 70 degrees one day, 30 the next, then back up to 50. The Chicago weather roller coaster!

I'm done with ramps until the spring at the earliest, but it's still fun to drag race and run around the track!

Depending on weather I'll bring mine, I like to jump.

I'll bring the big ramp, that's no problem - I just won't use it. I did pick up a new chassis for the Granite to replace the cracked one for when I start jumping again.

I posted in an rc group that I'm apart of, I'm ordering parts friday for the notorious, kraton needs a litte more tuning and she'll be ready! The mojave is still rock solid!
I look forward to running around with yall sunday!

So I worked on the Senton over the weekend to figure out what the noise was. You guys said you wanted to know, so here's your update. The sound was exactly as I had expected, the input gear for the rear differential stripped. There were also a couple broken teeth on the main differential gear, no damage internally though. I rebuilt the diff using a HR helical cut diff I had waiting for this exact issue to occur.

While in repair mode, I went through the entire drivetrain, cleaning and re-greasing each bearing. I found a completely locked up bearing on the rear drivers side wheel hub that I replaced. I inspected and rebuilt the front diff. Also found a broken steering block in the front which I replaced.

Some photos for your enjoyment:

I’ve got the same HR metal gears for my big rock but haven’t installed them because the old input gear is longer than stock. Did you have this issue with yours?

Dang I think I guessed wrong 🤣

Are you saying the HR input gear is longer than the stock one? I've not had this issue...that I'm aware of. I have the same HR gear setup in my Granite that I've been running for well over a year.

I don't think the length should cause you an issue because of how the diff yoke works with the 2 bearings holing the shaft of the input gear. The gear itself meshes with the diff ring gear and then the other end slides into the slipper plate on the power module assembly. There should be enough room for a little extra length to slide into the slipper plate.

Though now that I'm writing this and thinking through it... I was struggling last night to slide and clip the power module back into place. I gave up and was planning to figure it out tonight. Now I'm going to pull the input gear back out and compare it to the stock input gear since I haven't binned it yet. I did not have this problem on my Granite.

Stay tuned for an update!

I think the length of the input gear changed from the V2 to the V3 Arrma 3S cars. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I’d probably just grind it down 🤷‍♂️
