Timinater’s Granite 4x4 Build

Might be a stretch to call this a “Build Log” but I will track the additions and changes I’ve made to my humble Granite 4x4.

Bone stock:

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

17t Pinion added, stock pinion above it

Painted my sidewall lettering: how to thread here

Built a little storage shelf in the garage for my trucks:

• I’ve managed to break the stock servo, so I have a replacement coming from Arrma as well as a metal geared eBay special.
• Working on a DIY pit stand that I can post soon.
• DumboRC Tx/Rx is on its way.
• 2s LiPo coming too.

Added a 3300kv brushless motor/ESC combo from Banggood after my ESC fried. ARRMA sent me a replacement but I’m going to put that ESC in another project.

Wasn’t going for anything crazy in terms of an upgrade so 3300kv sounded right. We’ll see how it holds up with the stock gearbox. A quick test with the stock 2400 NiMh last night and it feels a little punchier, but nothing crazy so hopefully a good fit.

So far so good on 2S. Lots of packs through and it’s holding up nicely.

I let my 6yo nephew drive at about 50% throttle limit and no the surprise of no one he was pretty rough on it. Did the drywall tape/shoegoo reinforcement to it. Hopefully that helps prevent any more cracks to the body.

What brand drywall tape did you use? Any issue lifting when applying the shoe goo?

Here's what I used - seemed to stick well. Only one little spot moved when I added the shoe goo but I was pressing pretty firmly.

Replaced the stock servo with a KS-3518. Will test more thoroughly this weekend but it felt

I also added some wire loom on the motor leads for some cosmetic points.

Where did you get your wire loom? That looks awesome.

Made some roof sliders out of ABS. Machined them on my CNC. They aren’t perfect but should be another layer of protection for the body. Trick was getting coverage over the little bumps at the front, but having them mount flush.

Looks good. I’m thinking of starting my own granite thread. Mine started out as a Mega V2 and it’s completely converted to 3s blx. The only difference is the motor and esc are Surpass. 2900kv and 120amp esc. Thing is stupid fast on 3s. Very difficult to keep the front wheels down doing full speed runs. I’ve only hit my ramp full speed once and it scared the crap out of me. Landed about 20’ past it.
