I’m done burning through the cheap Amazon specials. They rarely work IC5 or QS8…. I need to know, do I go Weller, Hakko, Schneider… I’d like to remain under $120 Canadian (or $90 USD) What is going to last forever and heat up those IC5 or QS8 reasonably quick?? Should I go gun? I don’t mind waiting for it to great up…

I suck at soldering. I pay my local hobby shop to do it for me……it’s cheap.
I can solder tiny wires but when it comes to 8 -10 gauge stuff….I leave it to the pros.

I have that Weller D550 rig you posted. It works great.

I picked up this one recently at a local Ace Hardware.
its fine. I like the LEDs. But like most of these, doesn't get hot enough, Fast enough. but some of them get too hot for light electronics applications.

Weller 60W/120V

This is the one I wanted but they didn't have it and I was impatient.

Weller Digital Soldering Station with 70W Precision Iron

I love my 550 for doing bigger jobs. Heats up fast, solders fast. You don't want to be there all day over heating your plugs or wire waiting on a small one to get the heat in...
I use a weller 80w for everything else pretty much, love it...
Love weller stuff, lasts forever.

DuraTrax TrakPower TK950 soldering station $108.00. Mine is older than my Associated T5M. You can solder anything with it.
On backorder… wonder why? Lol

I recently picked up one of these Weller 80W/120V Soldering Iron, LED Halo Ring - WLIR8012A https://a.co/d/dB0wJD8 it works great so far.
Looks like a nice iron, the wedge tip seems big though. Also surprised to see them soldering 18650's with it..

At least I think it was that one. I bought it locally. Tip is rather large for sure but makes quick work of xt90s.

That’s the one I went with for my garage, and I also got a Hakko soldering station for my basement workshop. No solder joint will be füçkïñg with me any longer!

I didn’t expect this one to be nearly as good as it actually is. It handles #8 with QS8’s no problem. Included tips aren’t the greatest, buy some spares. For the money, you will not be disappointed.

The solder is the best, and has helped many who were having marginal results move to professional looking joints. Not cheap, but lasts a long time and is overwhelmingly the best choice.
