What’s up everyone! Some have asked about the 8X shocks on my TLR Typhon so here’s a write up to help with those interested:
*NOTE*
This will work with Kraton, and any other chassis using the same standoffs and A-Arms. Kratons and other trucks would use 8XT shocks for truggy.
Tools:
Remove and set aside the composite shock ball that is installed in the eyelet of the cap. (Right is stock, Left is after shaved.)
Find a bolt of some sort that fit the inside diameter of the bushing to hold it while shaving. I found a stand off with a O.D of 0.175 fit it perfect and snug.
Next attach your bolt to a drill, in my case I used a my drill press. Works quick and easy. Attach your bolt with the shock ball fit snug to the end.
The stock ball should have a measurement of 6.95mm.
Our goal is to shave the center of the ball to an O.D of 5.95-6 mm to match the ends of the ball ends.
Once you have shaved and measured your tolerance install your new bushing into the Losi shock cap. This allows you to use the shock guards as well.
Remove the stock Losi lower shock cups and re-install the stock arrma cups. The clearance is better with the arrma cup. You can try the Losi, I have not tried it.
Once all the upper bushings have been done you’re on the home stretch to having great suspension on your arrma buggy/truggy.
We want to take the a-arms and you’ll take the 19/64 drill bit and drill out the shock mounting hole to oversized it to to fit the width of the lower ball of the Losi 8X shock. You’ll want this to measure 7.6mm. Make sure to test fit and shave end-end in the mounting area to make sure you have enough clearance for the shock to freely move and articulate during compression/rebound.
Clean up you holes with a file and deburr your edges to make everything nice and clean. Install your shocks and hinge pins for the lower shock bushings. Tighten everything up. You have now installed Losi 8X/8XT shocks on you Typhon/Kraton!
Hope you enjoy the mod! It made a difference in handling in my car and I have several people always at the track asking me about it. It’s competitive as I have been fastest in practice and TQ in most races.
