What Pinion would you recommend for Kraton 6s with MAX6 G2 1650kv combo? (mostly bashing/speed bashing, want combo of power and speed).
Fireteam tires (may belt tires if possible) currently 20k/200k/20k in diffs

Considering 17t - 20t

Also are the Arrma D5 pinions fine or do you recommend another brand and any heatsink/fan recommendations for the motor if you think its needed (not sure if stock heatsink will fit ARA390299) (cold weather)?

  • I'd start at 18T without a fan or 20T with a fan
  • Arrma pinions suck. Tekno, RRP, and Saga make great pinions. And so does Surpass, surprisingly.
  • 200K in the center is perfect if you have an EXB with limited slip diffs. You'll want 500K if it's a normal Kraton.
  • Here's the type of fan mount to use for that type of motor. Any aluminum 40mm fan is fine.

If you had to choose one pinion brand out of those which one would it be?

Was considering that PH mount, have you tried a 3d printed on before?

I run a 19T Tekno M5 pinion on my Max6 G2 without a fan on mine (ARRMA pinions are garbage), but the season is cooler. I plan to install a fan in mine eventually but it has no problem staying cool.

I run a 20T Tekno M5 pinion on my Max6 G1 on my Fireteam and the G1 combo runs a bit warmer, mostly due to the fully enclosed body so airflow is kind of weak. Stock diff oils all around.

I have a K6S EXB and the stock diff oils (10/100/10 + min slip) worked fine.

Tekno. Yes I’ve tried a lot of different fan mounts on my cars, including some I printed myself. You can probably get away with a printed mount for general ripping around, but I wouldn’t go that route for jumps.

I'm considering the Max6 G2 & a TP4050 1700kv (40/80 can) w/ a 20t. Sound about right for a Kraton?
Will be a dedicated 6s rig but capable obviously of 8s & might consider that later on.

You may want to consider a bigger motor if you want a noticeable power increase over stock.

Go for it dude, that combo is great in a Kraton.

Sick at 6s and down right backflippin nasty on 8s. My personal recommendations for fans and pinion below.

Fan setup:

Pinion Adapter: "I absolutely hate 2mm set screws and update to this on all my 5mm shaft motors that run Mod1"

8mm Pinions: "Use a step bit to hollow out the stock Arrma 25mm motor adapter"

Or regular ol 2mm grub screw mod1 pinions (n) haha:

Which 8mm pinion are you using (number of teeth)/what is the maximum size that will fit?
You prefer this setup as you find the 2mm grubs become loose to easily?

I prefer not stripping 2mm grub screws. You basically cannot strip 2.5's. I've seen people run up to mid and high 30's for pinion size. My buddy runs a 5687 "not 1650kv" its lower kv, in his Kraton with a 36t pinion, I don't run that high though.

My pinions are the ones I linked.

Tekno pinions have a bigger M5 set screw and are quite durable, so I think that's a cleaner and cheaper option compared to an 8mm pinion and adapter.
Good call there, Awesome!! To bad they don't make Heli pinions. Do they? That's where most of my 8mm adapters are used. Herringbone and Spiral cut pinions :(

I'm not sure TBH. I'm new to the hobby, but I did order the MAX6 G2 combo recently for my Kraton and was researching what to do for a larger pinion and settled on Tekno because of the larger set screw.
