What's "hot"?
I do 18/50 on a Kraton EXB with Max6 and 1650kv, bigger pinion gets hot too. Seems like 22T pinion is too big?

You have two options my friend. You can gear down with a smaller pinion or you can improve cooling with upgraded fans.

I'm not a fan of rocket fans but I would go with 40 mm dual fans 👍 run them separately from a 500 mah lipo with a on / off switch in line
What would you recommend for fan(s)?
(sorry for hijacking this topic, but I think OP can use this info too)

I run a Hobbystar 4092 1480kv on a Max6 with my Talion XL. Was running a 21t pinion before summer no problems, summer had to gear down to 19t. Running 2 40mm rocket fans, temps are in the 130s to low 140s F after a 6000mah 6s pack of hard running.

I don’t agree. That motor is just fine for running 6S in that truck.
You are free to do so, but on 6s the motor is not even going to be spinning at 37k rpm, more like 30k under load.
That’s far from optimal and is causing his heat issues.

Motor spins too slow, he gears up, motor pulls more amps than it should, it gets hot.

I run 1260kv in my kraton.
1350kv in my MT410.
1550kv in Talion.
1260kv in Fireteam.
1200kv in SBR.

All on 6S, all fast as hell, and all run plenty cool. His 1480kv is perfectly fine.

I think 6 50mm fans stacked on that motor should solve his heating issues 🤣🤣🤣
One of these will be plenty..then you can run any gear ratio you like 😁👍..my advice is free of charge.its on the house🤣
