Running on soft sand.

8" tall non belted soft tires.

Literally no reason/excuses in my eyes.
 
Last time I took a rig out in the 30's I snapped a metal driveshaft in less than 60 seconds. Didn't even realize metal embrittlement was a thing but plastics are even worse..

Perhaps just bad luck or maybe the cold exposes flaws in the materials.

You would think the wheel would hold up though. 😞

Cold can and will make materials react in a manner you're just not ready for (except for stuff like water...that's fairly predictable).
 
With plastic you're on your own except for a manufacturing defect. If it's defective Traxxas is pretty good about backing their stuff.
