@BashingBrian thanks for the tips.

I have done soldering before but only on circuit boards and brushed motors. I'm actually IPC application specialist certified but a lot of that training when I did it is specifically focused on through hole/surface mounted soldering.

The batteries would be at storage charge when I attempt them but I'm going to have a good practice first on some spare wire I have. My soldering iron is only 40W though but we'll see how I get on. If it's no good then I guess I'll have to upgrade it. (y)

So you’re full of hot air ?

So you’re full of hot air ?
Not sure how to take that tbh?

I mean I'm sure it is meant as a joke but it's gone over my head.

Anyway I had a go at soldering some 8mm bullets onto an unused set of charger leads this evening. Wasn't the prettiest soldering but the wires are held in strongly and I think it will do.

Still, not going to do the batteries just yet, bit more practice first.

It was a joke buddy. It was a play on hot air stations used to do SMC rework. Maybe it was lost in translation. We say we speak English here in America, but let’s be honest, it’s not the same English that’s spoken in England.

It's all good, ...I just didn't get it. :p Like I said over my head.
Tbh I've never used one of those re-work stations anyway. I did the IPC training just over 2 years ago now when I was between jobs.

I love the English language; it's so versatile and varied depending on the country you're from/using it in as well as having different regional dialects. (y)

Another tip, always plug plugs together.. so, plug male in female etc so as to transfer the heat away quicker..??

I'm full of tips..?? here's another, if you put an elastic band around the handles of a pair of pliers you then have a third hand and good heat dissipation all in one..??

Something like these, the bigger the better... bullets etc fit very well in the oval part..???

Picked up my new motor today from the PO that I ordered a while ago. Couldn't wait till the weekend so got straight on it and fitted it this evening. @LibertyMKiii
In case you can't tell from the colour it's a "Castle Creations" style motor with high KV.

No idea really what to expect from it tbh, ...will be testing it this weekend but won't be pushing it just yet as still getting used to my new Futaba remote as well as the Typhon itself with all the changes I've made to it over the last month.
Real test will be later in August when I go to Round 2 of ROSSA UK. (y)

Another pic below of my new set up as I repositioned the MM2 ESC because firstly it started to come unstuck and secondly I didn't like the wiring the way it was. Hopefully that's it now all ready to go to North Wales next weekend for the UK Round 2 ROSSA event. :)

Oh and 8mm bullet connectors all done on everything as well. (y)

Looking good..???

Good luck at round 2 of Rossa ??, sadly I won't be there as work commitments are stopping me..?

Gotta pay for all the crap I keep buying somehow..???

Thanks.

That's a shame but hopefully you'll have time/some dry weather to get used to your new Infraction and then come to the next ROSSA event. Even standard the Infraction is bl**dy fast so would be great to see one run through the traps.

Will update after ROSSA and fingers crossed I can improve my PB from last time.

i see you are still using the HR springs with 1000 wt shock oil. how is that combo working for you? have you tried any offroading with that combo at all? after raising the droop screws. i have the same combo but i haven't tried offroading yet. seems too stiff and bouncy to do any offroading but i love the look of the black springs....

My Typhon is a speed runner so it hasn't been off road at all and it never will be.
It has very limited suspension travel in part due to the stiff set up but also because I made shock limiters so it would be terrible if taken off road. ;)

If you want to take yours off road then this is not the set up for you. In fact you want almost the exact opposite for off road so that it can absorb the bumps with maximum suspension travel and softer springs. Best of luck with your Typhon and you're right the HR springs do look good. (y)

This weekend just gone (17-18th August) I attended Round 2 of the UK ROSSA (Radio Operated Scale Speed Association) event at the Snowdonia Aerospace Center, Llanbedr Airfield, North Wales.
@BashingBrian @phildogg @LibertyMKiii @joostin420 @Erstadw @cootertwo and anyone else interested. (y)

It was another fantastic event but it was severely hampered by the weather unfortunately. We were lucky in one respect as it was dry apart from on the last day as we were clearing up but the entire weekend we were battered by very strong cross winds. It was unrelenting.

I didn't take many pictures as I was too busy catching up with friends, watching the action and of course running the Typhon.
All the speed runners from the weekend lined up on day 1...

It was a very eventful weekend. I broke my PB as did many others and we even had a World Record breaker that day.

My new PB is now 112+mph but the Typhon has so much more left in it I know. Just couldn't get anymore from it this weekend what with one thing and another (excuses I know  ).
Dynamite GPS was accurate to within 1-2mph +/- everytime compared to the official traps so that's great accuracy imo.
14 GPS data of one of my ROSSA runs @round 2.JPG

Quite a bit of carnage happened this weekend with a few bits of side ways action, some blown tyres and this...

Also I made a bit of a c*ck up when it came to setting my fail safe on my new radio which is worth sharing so you don't make the same mistake.

So I have a Futaba 4PLS radio which has it's own built in fail safe so I set that up at home on the table, ...checked it twice with the car up in the air running, radio off and it worked (car stopped). Decided to make sure it went fully to brake so readjusted it again holding the "trigger/throttle" in what would be full brake (didn't check this time).

Can you see the mistake I made?
Yep you've probably guessed it that because my ESC still had the "reverse" function enabled instead of going fully to brake what it infact did was go to full throttle reverse.

So after I had done one of my runs I was talking to one of the other speed runners whilst putting my Typhon down on my little folding picnic table. Usually I switch off the car first but I hadn't done that this time so when I switched off my transmitter/radio the "fail safe" was initiated leading to this.....

It shot into reverse burning rubber across my table. As it started to fly off the table I managed to grab the rear wing in my right hand and lift it off the table/catch it in mid air & then turn off the power.
Luckily the only damage done was to my table and a small cut on my hand from the carbon fibre wing. Reverse is now disabled from my MM2 ESC so that can never happen again.

Learnt a lot this weekend (mainly always double check your fail safes!) and despite the small bit of drama and constant wind it was a fantastic event. Look forward to the next one. (y)

Thanks Liberty. (y)

Can't say what the WR broken was until the official results are released sorry. ;)
No worries...

How do these events happen. Is it just a single person organizing and funding this or do local RC businesses help?
I cant believe that in the U.S. we don't have any of these events anymore. (there were some years ago)

@GMballistic ... That table...???? you were lucky though not to have had more damage to yourself or your car..!!

Great that you beat your PB..??????

It does baffle me though that an event that could do with good weather is held in Wales of all places, to those of you that don't know Wales has terrible weather most of the time all year round..???
