Was a slacker in High School so they sent me to the Vo-tech to make birdhouses and ash trays with the rest of the kids they could not teach. Took up metal shop and been a machinist now for over 30 years. Work on mostly cnc turning centers and all general type manual machines. Been at 3m now for almost 20years. My favorite job was working with toolmakers as an assistant in a razor blade factory. I learned more from that group of old men than any place I ever worked at since.

30 years?! Much respect @Jimbobjr, there aren’t many real machinists left anymore, especially tool makers. You are in HOT demand right now. I bet you can eyeball .001”....

I work in sales at a wholesale natural stone and quartz slab supply company. Started in the industry as a truck driver 20 years ago, and slowly moved through different departments until I got to where I am. I've done landscaping, road, bridge & sewer construction, manufacture and repair of overhead cranes, and even did a stint as an auto detailer and mechanic when I was in my late teens.
Lately, sales have been slow, so i moonlight at BBD (Bickety Bam Dildos) for some extra cash. It's a job i had to "thrust" myself into, to help make ends meet?

We are always looking for machinist, you are right not many around anymore. Part of the problem is no one wants to put the money out to train someone or do apprenticeship programs for young people to learn the trade. All the trades are in a similar situation. High schools have 4 or 5 lacrosse coaches and lighted fields but will not put out any cash for shops, teachers and modern equipment. Most vo tech schools are called something like ....school for the arts and teach drama, interpretive dance or other things which have nothing to do with earning a living. It’s starting to come around, they will have to come up with something for young boys to do. They can’t all sell drugs...

Pilot car operator for escorting oversized loads
Seen lots of these in central and northern Ontario. That is surely a very stressful job.

This has to be one of the posts that cracked me up. Been in RC for only about 3 years after my brother in law gave my son an ECX Ruckus. Well then I needed to get a faster one right???

I work in the healthcare industry working in IT for 14 years. Currently I am leading our company's enterprise automation team.

Licensed electrical contractor and factory trained liquid cooled standby generator tech. Run my own buisness with 11 employees. Was Into nitro cars when I was a teen. Sold everything at around 22 ( work had me too busy to live a normal life lol). At 32 now just bought a v4 Kraton for myself and a rustler for my 3 year old son 3 weeks ago and we are having a blast. It amazes me how well he’s doing with it. We set up a little shop in the garage and that’s where we tinker. Happy to be back into the hobby

I’m a auto tech of over 30 years. Spent 15 years with Porsche at dealer level. I have over 23 training classes under my belt. I left the environment due to the shady dealer politics and back stabbing amongst other staff members. I’m now maintaining a private car collection of approx 50 plus vehicles. I’m currently restoring a 1960 Jaguar xk150. Hopefully this year i will be opening to the public.

I recently got into RC’s as my 10 year son wanted one for his birthday. It’s started out with a rustler vxl, then a slash 4x4 and now an e REVO. Then my daughter wanted the same (I treat them both the same and one does not get more than the other) and she got rustler brushed, mini slash 4x4 and the first arrma.....granite 4x4. I hope to get a typhon 6s for myself. I’m hoping that arrma comes out with an x maxx killer!

Lolz. Thanks! I’m practically doing everything myself these days. I do have a large setup for detailing though. Unfortunately my apprentice left as there wasn’t enough work for me to give him to do on his own. Which I understand.....no one wants to wash and detail cars all day when you’ve spent thousands in tech school. I have a new guy starting monday who will be doing the detailing, errands, answering phone, etc
