So, I put the brand new XLX2 that I got as a warranty replacement for the one that caught on fire in my k8s in the DBXL I just recently got. I get everything setup and go outside all excited and I get to drive the rig for about 5 minutes before it just completely dies. Thankfully I wasn't going that fast because I would have smacked right into the curb otherwise.

I cannot believe a brand new xlx2 just dies on me on the very first run. No burnt smell no weird signs no nothing. Just DEAD, won't even connect to castle link. I tried swapping wire harnesses, rx and everything else I could think of. I installed another xlx2 and boom everything working great again.

How am I this unlucky? I guess I should be glad this one didn't burst into flames too but gawd damn man I didn't even get through 1 pack with this esc............     :(:eek::eek::mad:

Now I have to pay for shipping again to send them back this faulty POS

I killed both of my XLX2 bashing. One lasted like a year, while I the other only lasted like a month. The both suffered the same failure. Bullets came off the ESC on the battery side. Castle blamed my 39/39 gearing and 35/47 gearing. And my bad soldering job. They warrantied one and charged me $175 for the other one. Meanwhile my Max 5 on my X-Maxx has been going strong for 3 years.

Update to this, they just told me they would warranty it but they also basically told me they won't warranty any more XLX2 for me again?!?!

what the actual ****? This thing dies within the first 10 mins of the first pack and it's some how my fault?? I didn't even do the soldering! that's nuts to me. Especially since I have like 25 castle escs so I'm obviously not the typical customer.

Really left a bad taste in my mouth and makes it really hard to speak well of castle support. It's not my fault I had 2 xlx2's end up being duds, especially when I order so many. I really wish they would get their poop together and stop putting it on the customers.

Literally wasn't even pulling over 250 amps both times my XLX2's died.

Again......

Castle for speed.
Hobbywing for bashing.

I was just driving up and down the street!! not even fast!!! funny thing is both times it was a 1/5th scale rig. Never had a single problem with an XLX2 in any of my felony/infraction/limitless etc etc.

Man, I am salty as a saltine cracker right now. I think I definitely need to stick to max 5's in big rigs.
Jeez, knowing how much money you have tied up in Castle products that is pretty lame.
Seriously!! I have to be one of their best customers man. Really can't believe dude told me that. I didn't even know what to say lol.

The only thing ive seen the XLX2 do better than the Max 5 is being able to run higher gearing. That's about it. And maybe more top speed. After my personal experience, I would go with the Max 5 and Max 4 for the big stuff indeed for long term durability and success. Even though the XLX2 can run higher gearing, it fails in the end anyways, so that's a mute point. For on road high speed stuff, you definitely should go with the XLX2 and other HW stuff.

And then when you talk to castle support they basically just tell you "gear down" I told him I was running STOCK GEARING and he repeated I should still "gear down" like wtf? I didn't spend a premium on an xlx2 to gear LOWER THAN STOCK.:mad::mad::mad: I don't understand why they won't revise and fix this bs.

Sorry to hear about the LAME DUCK Customer Not-Care service you got from Castle..

If it would have Burned up & Melted..
You would have qualified for the Flaming XLX2 ESC Decal... ;P

Sorry bout that. Surely frustrating.
You said this one was already a warranty replacement?
Maybe CC sent you a "reconditioned" one. Like what they probably did with the original one you sent back to them. They refurb it and send it out to another as a service or warranty replacement?
Just trying to understand it. How could CC QC be that Off? I have seen a few others here and elswhere where their Replacements were also defective. Like it wasn't even tested after a refurbed/mfr'ed. and before shipping. IDK.
Why do many speedrunners have great luck with them??

This is what I don't understand man. I'm not even speed running! I was going maybe 30 mph down the road and thankfully so because if I was going any faster when it died, I would have crashed right into the curb and it would have been even worse.

My other xlx2 died in the middle of a jump which caused the truck to land badly and then xlx2 burst into flames. my limitless and other cars never have a single problem.

Maybe CC ESC's are not best for hard bashing impacts. Not made well enough for shocks? Just saying. For the price, they should be more impact resistant. Should work out the box and for quite awhile. What else could it be? They generally work great in Speedrunners.
CC tends to repair their ESC's.
HW tosses them if returned. They get recycled down to raw materials. Pretty much not serviceable with an internal issue. Not quite sure how CC does it. Maybe the staff at CC have "quietly quit" these days, like much of the labor force??? Not much effort once they clock in to work? Anyones guess.
I see too many replacement CC ESC's also fail, compared to new Retail out the box. I think speedrunning is what put CC on the map. Not so sure about regular bashing applications.

Edited.

Castle told me directly that they do not repair ESCs. Every warranty replacement they send is actually a brand new ESC.

The reasoning they provided is that the ESCs are potted with epoxy for waterproofing. They can’t be fixed and resealed properly.

I’m not saying any of that is actually true or not, just figured I’d share what they said 🤷‍♂️

That’s brutal man. I’d be pissed.

Depends on how many I'd gotten out of them up to this point. You can only beat the house at the blackjack table so many times before the casino makes it clear, in no uncertain terms, that you've, ahem...worn out your welcome. 😜

Uhm...
But this isn't a casino..
I don't think @Moirae wanted to gamble his hard earned money on playing ESC craps..

& He bought and Paid for a Brand New ESC ,NOT a second hand unit..

There's laws against companies from pawning off defective units onto the consumer and re-neg on coverage of said warranty.

Sounds like a Class Action Lawsuit coming.

********

Holy sh!tzits ,I just looked up the price of a XLX2 ESC..!!!
I thought it was a ~ $150 or so item..

What the hell is in these things to cost that much!?

I meant it a little tongue-in-cheek. While I might be able to understand if they've been generous with their warranty, beyond what they might normally do (I'm not saying this is the case here specifically as I'm not up to date on how many ESCs we're talking about nor the specific circumstances of each of those cases) and that was their way of saying, "Please...you better slow down", I totally agree that making a blanket statement like that is a bit fussy. I mean...are they really not going to honor the warranty in a clear case of a manufacturing defect or some other such clear cut case? I can't imagine so. I also wouldn't stop RMA'ing ESCs if I truly felt that I'd done nothing outside of normal use. So...I'm with ya Tex.

I've had 3 esc warrantied. 2 xlx2 including the one this thread is about and 1 mmx8s that I paid to have upgraded so they didn't cover it for free, I never even asked them to cover it as I sent it in under the 2nd tier warranty or whatever it's called.

This 2nd XLX2 was a replacement for the one that caught on fire, and it died on the very first pack within the very first 10 minutes of me running the rig moderately light.

Funny enough I just saw a video on youtube of a guy having the same exact problem with the same exact rig. XLX2 just died mid run same as mine but the video is from a couple months ago :ROFLMAO:

It actually makes all of this even worse tbh. Castle has to know the XLX2 has a problem with randomly just blowing up or dying. I don't even know how you can ignore the problem and just act like it's the customer every time they send in a unit for warranty. I'm definitely not buying another XLX2 for a 1/5th scale rig again and I'd be selling the replacement if it wasn't for my limitless v1 since I took the esc from that to put in the dbxl.

Also, to make this even weirder, both times I've had an xlx2 either blow up or die on me it was paired with a castle 2028 1100kv motor. 2 separate 2028 motors for both XLX2.
