Arrma RC's
  1. Nero
Used to have the hobbywing max6 esc, a hobbystar 4082 1600kv 4 pole motor.

Now I need to replace the esc that I stole...

Have a max8 combo ready to go in, or just a max8 esc and I can keep the 1600kv? Which would be better?

power hobby servo
hot racing servo mount

I’ve been having issues with my steering in this thing. At first I tried one of those eBay red cased metal gear servos.. it was pretty much the same as the arrma one. I installed this powerhobby this Morning, hoping to give that a go this afternoon.

I just did a complete tear down of the diffs after I thought I had broken something. But it would appear everything was good? Kinda weirded out on that one...

The 6s MT rigs need a digital 25+ kg servos to really shine. Stock analog servo is 15kg. Lame as heck. That's a nice PH servo. Full alloy case. What model is it?
BTW, nicely done rig you have there. I have a HW XR8+ motor/ESC combo shipped (sensored). Been running this combo with the 1900kv/4068 in my Tekno MT for several years now. And geared for 4S it is a rocket. I like HW high end stuff.

Hey thanks, it’s the 729MBL. It seems to have a ton more power than the stock and other units I tried. Not cheap! Haha

You generally pay for what you get. I have luck with AMZ servos.(FanModel 25kg/$35.) Also have had bad luck with 2 Savox 1210's($75.) out the box. Noisey. Struggle to center properly.
Thanks for the servo info. Been looking at Promodeler servos at $100.00. Ouch. But looking for better precision over the cheaper ones. My FanModel cheapos never fail. Just getting worn a bit from normal and long time abuse. (the gears)

Just did a little bit of a run in my neighborhood. The powerhobby servo has tons of power. It does improve the steering immensely, however... I think the kratons steering just isn’t that great lol. I mean, I also have a typhon 6s which turns amazing with the stock arrma servo soooo. Idk. Will keep toying till I get it dialed in. I’ve heard replacing the bearings will also help.

Make sure steering end points are good.(adjust at the radio if need be)
ST binding is prevalent. Make sure your Pillow balls are not too tight! Usually very tight from the factory assembly.
Also did you replace the 4 (6 x10 x3mm) stock brass steering bushings with ball bearings? That's a given out the box for smoother quicker steering.
If you didn't already, replace them. If you get a complete sealedBearing kit (22 bearings in all) these 4 are usually included. FastEddy or TrBRC bearing kits. You can also buy 4 separately. Cheaper to just buy a whole sealed bearing kit. I promise you will need it anyway.
BTW, The Typhon has smaller wheels and will turn easier and faster. Kraton has a longer wheelbase and doesn't turn on a dime like the Typhon will. Thats a given. Larger/wider MT tires take more effort. They need at least 25kg torque at the servo.

Yea, I have the bearings.. I just need to tear the steering apart and do it. I’ve been avoiding it cause I’ve been out of gas for my torch. Maybe I can get it with a soldering iron. I think the servo was a great first step. Bearings will be next. Also, took a look at the end points on my remote and they were all good.

I haven’t seen anybody ask if you’ve tightened your servo saver yet. I have a Kraton V2 and it’s steering was getting worse and worse. I was able to tighten the servo saver up a bit and my turning radius got a lot tighter.
I do know Arrma has changed this design though since my version. You may want to take a look at that.

I have a v3 and a v4 kraton. The v3 has the threaded style you can tighten. On the v4 they switched over to the “forever style” non adjustable servo saver. With no way to adjust.. on the v3 I tighten it and it just comes loose.. this last time I tightened the heck out of it and then locktite’d it. (Spelling lol) I have bearings that I will replace in it. Hopefully that will improve it even more than the servo mount+servo already has. Thank you for the suggestion.

Looks like I’ll be taking the max 6 out of the kraton for my limitless build.. who here has done the max8 combo for their kratons? Is it worth the difference in price to go with it over the stock blx system?

Max 6 has been removed and placed into the limitless.. now the decision of what esc/motor combo to replace it with.

I have a couple options.. I have a couple max8 esc’s laying around including one combo with the matching 2200kv 4274 motor. I could just swap the combo in or I could leave the 1600kv that’s already in it and just slap a max8 in there and see how it does. Think that’s too low a kv for the max8 to handle?

Started workin on putting an esc back in my V4 and when I got to the xt90 part... I reached into my drawer of connector stuff... DOH! Used my last 2 on the talion esc. Pictured below.. now I gotta wait till more arrive.. so meanwhile, I’ll post a pic of my cap pack wire job. I decided to stick with the stock blx motor for now. What’s a good pairing for the max8 in the kraton? I’ve heard the 1730 I think? Is the ticket in the kraton? What’s the good word fella’s?

Finally got it in and test driven... this thing is an animal this max8 wasn’t sweating the 1600kv at all. Neighborhood bashing with a few max speed runs and the temps were nice n cool to the touch. ????

Hey everyone,

As some of you may already know I ordered a 1717 for my mojavaton and I had ordered an RCjuice motor to keep me busy while the other one was on “backorder”

Well, as it turns out my 1717 shipped out about the same time my hobbystar fill in shipped out.. it’s a 4274 1350KV sensored.. So I might as well put the HS motor in the Kraton.. gonna pair it with a MMX8S. Just wanted to let anyone watching the build what’s to come... new electronics for everyone! Haha. No... no.. just the mojavaton and the kraton :)

What’s the latest and greatest on your 1717 build? Been eyeballing the HS 4082/92 myself....wondering what you think of the comparison...

I actually completed the 1717 build on the Kraton XL...

I also completed a 1717 build on my EXB..
link:https://www.arrmaforum.com/threads/rcp’s-exb-build.25769/

as for the different motors.. I actually happen to have the 4085, 4092, and the 1717 all in kratons at some point, and I love them all. Lol

there really is nothing that can compare to the super slow crawl speed ability of the sensored 1717 system. It’s very cool to have such smooth operation and then to be greeted with explosive power is just a treat.

the HS motors are also very good. Especially for their inexpensive tag. The 4082 has some punch, but it doesn’t have as long of legs as the 4092... feels like the 4092 has lots of low end that has a longer power band. great motors.

that said, if I had to choose just 1, and price was not an object... it’d have to be the 1717 combo.

I really do want to compare the 1717 to the max6 full combo... but do not have that motor.. ??

hope that answers all your questions ??

Old thread warning. I’m considering the same setup for my MT410. Do you run into any heat issues with the smaller buggy motor?

I run 4s in my TLRT and my MT.
2250kv G3/XR8+ in my TLRT. 22T pinion.
1900kv G2/XR8+ in my MT. 16T pinion.
Heat not an issue for me. But it all depends how hard you bash. And your Fan setup. I don't run any Heat sinks. Just a Fan mount. (1) 40x10mm fan on both motors. 1900kv has enough Torque for the rather Light MT. I can probably up the pinion even more. I run Ceramic BB's in both motors FWIW.
